S3 BONNET RELEASE CABLE

Just become a prowd owner of an 1990 S3 but have a problem with the bonnet release cable on the nearside catch its seized I was able to get my arm under the bonnet & take the top nut off the spring latch so the bonnett is open but the latch is still stuck in the stricker plate.
I have been under the dash & removed the convoluted air pipes & found the bolts that secure the stricker plate they are covered in resin but i have managed to get one out I will have a go at the other tommorrow (what a job)
my question is
1/ where can i get a new cable ?
2/ is there a thread on the removal & instalation of the cable (easier way)
any help would be much appreciated

i fixed mine with bike brake cables and an lock nipple thingy. Think somewhere like speedy cables would make a proper one to order though
