Anyone have European Breakdown cover with A-Plan?

As it looks like I may now have two trips to Europe planned this year in the T350 (one to Italy via CH in June, and then to Spa for the F1 in Aug) and I am looking at different options for breakdown cover.

I know there have been a few topics recently as I have found them but I am wondering specifically who, if anyone, has got experience of the Uk & European cover through APlan? It seems pretty comptehensive and has good cover but almost seems to cheap at only £50/year! The AA price is a hell of a lot more for both single trip and annual, but the last thing I want is to have a problem and realise an extra £50 would have been very well spent.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Stu - I'm with ADAC and that gives me full 365 day European cover for Euros 79. So the Aplan deal seems similar value; and the others just expensive.

Hope you are well? and wondered if its OK for us in UK to use ADAC directly, and whether you need a good knowledge of German to (1)navigate the site, and (2)translate the paperwork from German to English. Also, do they cover the driver, or the car(s) as I have the TVR and the runaround to be covered ideally.

ADAC cover the driver, so whatever you are driving. I've been with ADAC 20+ years, which is why I stick with them. I guess I'd go for the APlan offer as it seems the same price as ADAC and just highlights the fact that the others are expensive.

Got plenty of interest on that Saggy and the other one, but nobody wants to travel to Bradford!

The European cover through Aplan will only cover the TVR though and not my daily run-around.

What have ADAC been like when/if you have needed them in the UK? Do they use AA/RAC? and still offer the likes of Roadside, Relay, Home Start etcc.. (or equivalent?)

I'm tempting fate here talking about break downs! I've broken down twice in UK. The first time I phoned the International freephone number which connects to Paris. And they sent out the AA, who fixed the car. The second time, I just phoned the AA direct and told them my ADAC membership number and they came out. They couldn't get it started and so recovered the car back to TVR in Blackpool, who fixed it. I've also broken down in Spain, where I phoned the International freephone number and RACE came and fixed it. (Two TVRs and a BMW before you ask.)

I am looking for european breakdown cover for the upcoming trip to Le Mans, have been quoted 58 quid with the AA, that includes discount for being a current AA member! Have also tried Directline who have quoted 33 quid for the same period.

Something to check when looking at European Breakdown cover.

If the car needs to be shipped home, most will get you a rental car to continue your trip.

You should check when you have to return the hire car.

Some friends had a TVR breakdown a couple of years ago in Spain, and they were covered by (I think) the RAC.

Got a hire car no problem for the rest of the trip ... in SPAIN.

They had to return the hire car at the ferryport in Spain, then were left to carry all their luggage and stuff removed from the TVR onto the Ferry as foot-passengers.

For a subsequent trip they used the AA.

Unfortuneatly they needed to use the cover again, this time due to a big accident where the car was totalled.

The big difference with the AA cover, was that they we able to keep their hire car until they got to the UK, where another car was provided and they simply swapped the luggage over!


So check any policies very carefully before you buy.
