Hi All, I currently have a side extension on our house which has an opaque polycarbonate roof, which is now leaking, grubby and now needs replacing.

In an ideal world, I'd like to have a new slate roof built with velux windows, but I'm steering myself towards a simpler and potentially cheaper replacement coloured aluminium glass roof from a conservatory company.

I'd be happy with a clear glass roof, but next door's upstairs windows would be able to have a clear view of us going about our business, so I think it would be better for both of us if the glass is obscured. I'm thinking of either adding window film myself or specifying frosted glass.

I reckon window film is my favoured option as it's likely to be cheaper. But would this be a good solution, and would it affect the heat reflection/retention properties of glass units available nowadays? Cheers!

If you are going to the trouble of having new double glazed units made up for the roof I would explore the options available at the factory.

Glass is very impressive stuff now.

Pilkington do a float glass called Optilam which might fit the bill.
