MCN have done a spread on Police responding to Diesel on the road in various parts of the country.

Has anyone ever come off on Diesel?
I have, whilst riding a 'job' bike and it was most embarrasing. No serious injuries except pride.....oh, and of course the bike, but it wasnt mine anyway.

Can I ask the question, did it make your force more aware of the diesel spill problem for bikers afterwards? And, as a follow up, did/do they do something about it?

Just wondering.

We are all quite welll aware of the problem. The article in MCN was good, but not accurate in my opinion.

Obvioulsy, when we are Motorcyclists it does make a difference because we are well aware of the consequences.

I've skidded all over the road on diesel on several occasions but have been fortunate enough never to have fallen on it. I'm pleased that MCN are taking this seriously because I believe it is an increasing hazard.

Agree, more and more diesel everywhere.

I especially hate the bit on my commute that's takes me directly past Croydon bus depot, as they often overfill the tanks , which then spill when they pull out...Can't remember a day in the last 6 months where there hasn't been at least one slick there...

The worst I've seen (and encountered) was on the way to Oulton Park two years ago. It must have come from a truck as it was early in the morning, but as I got close to the circuit through one of the small towns there was a spill, and I kid you not, that went on for about 6 miles! The first I saw of it was on a roundabout, and the car was suddenly facing the barrier and not towards the exit I wanted!

It just went on and on at each left hand bend. It must have come from a tank that was on the right hand side of a vehicle. No one was there doing anything about it.

I wasn't trying to be funny with my earlier question Tony. It's just that I was interested if the people higher up the chain of command took note of what can happen because of the spills after one of their own people had suffered.
You didn't really answer that part of the question.

It's ludicrous how much off the stuff there is around. In the rain I can see the tell tale rainbow patches ever few feet on some sections of my commute. Not been off because of it yet, but know many who have.

No offence taken.....but in answer to your question, i was told that i should have seen it and it came back to count on my 'Job Licence' (2 points).

Funny thing was, that decision was taken by a non Motorcyclist......so you see, there are numpties everywhere.

I have skided on diesel plenty of times in a car but not yet on a bike.

I say not yet but when I came off last year it was just after a roundabout with a petrol station on, across from a big truck depot! So it is possible but at the time i didnt think to look at the road.

cool - Tony, you're a biker as well? I must've missed that fact or forgotten about it. Brilliant ! so you can understand the buzz?

So I have to ask.... what do you find more exciting - bike or car?

Can't spot it in Kingston...there's not a smooth enough road surface to see it on
