Run way insurance
Discussion
Looking forward to S club next weekend and having a go on the run way.
Today rang up the insurance, (a company that have recently stopped insuring later tvr's)
to get insurance for the day.
Told they won't do it unless its a recognised track with all the facilities. This is annoying because they were fine with it a few months ago when i booked it.
Sure i will still do it but won't be going all out with the worry of damaging the car or myself.
Thats if its even possible on the day without the insurance.

I got a quote from a third party for cover for the runway which I'm going take up I think for peace of mind, came to about £60 or 70. Can't for the life of me remember who it was with though which may be problematic.
Does £60ish sound about right or is that on the steep side? I've never bought track day or sprinting insurance before.

I had the same with the same company, also tried Moris who were really helpful and would have covered it except I said "timed" runs which then became "competition" and "racing license" Moral here is Moris will insure on the runway but just say runway sprints not timed!! I found this really irritating as you could time a lap on a trackday and still be covered with their trackday insurance and with only 1 car at a time the risk must be lower than for a trackday. I've decided to take same approach as Wiz. Do the runs but probably remain slightly cautious.Today rang up the insurance, (a company that have recently stopped insuring later tvr's)

Wiz insurance level is up to you - I will have none

ETA - I thought the company that changed its mind did so because my policy expires on 24 May so they really had no reason to keep me sweet with runway being 2 days before end of policy, but now looks more like it is a TVR post 1980 thing?

You're not missing anything Tony. You always need insurance, the difference here is it is a specific use which is usually specifically excluded from policies, hence the point of trying to get what we might think of as additional cover, but it is in fact just cover.
Cars can be pushed off site though....

Dave is correct, I was looking to cover myself for a blow out or similar and depending on cost would have or maybe not taken it out, I believe the risk of what we are doing is far less than driving at 70mph on a motorway as there is only you even if you may be going a bit quicker. On this basis the (and Dave's "push off site" comment I pursuaded the base that we didn't need anything other than the TVRCC's 3rd party liability cover and hence it is up to individuals what cover they wish to carry for their car. For example Moris cover can include gearbox, engine and drive chain damage
In sum it is up to the individual to assess the risk and cover what risk he is not prepared to accept.
