As per usual, and given my hate of gardening the grass has done its usual trick
and is now over a foot tall, i've previously used an electric strimmer with poor
results.

My question is what implement that could be hired would do the job with as little
effort as possible? I would imagine that a petrol strimmer would be the best option
given that you don't seem to be able to hire flame throwers!!

Can anyone recommend anything please?

I've just been in touch with "Green Thumb" and waiting for them to get back to me to come and look at my lawn.

Currently more dandelions that grass and looking very rough. I'd rather pay them to sort it properly than spend similar amounts on gardening products that I@ll no doubt use incorrectly and kill everything.

How much grass have you got? Cut the grass down then get a lawnmower, sheep, flock of sheep, concrete the lot!

I've got an old one of these in my garage

yikes Wow !

I've had one of those in my garage for over 20 years and still haven't found a use for it.

They are extremely useful for setting fire, at a range of about 15 ft, to a 24 foot long hedge of 8ft conifers that you may knackered your back transplanting from other areas of the garden against a fence and spent every night for 6 months watering so they don't die.

Then once you have successfully flamethrowed the conifers into a 24 ft long row of blazing roman candles they will then set fire to the new fence whilst you run up the garden to grab your watering hose only to find that the hose just isn't man enough for the job.

You will then spend a further few back breaking weekends digging out the blackened and dead conifer corpses and replacing the fence panels.

All because I borrowed my father in laws weed burner, to burn a few weeds off the garden path.

It had a "dodgy" valve. He told me. Later. Much later.

Cheers,

Tony

It would be much easier if you just cut the grass little and often. And then you'd have a lawn, not a lumpy yellow paddock!

As it happens I got the third degree tonight after work from SWMBO regarding the cost of
hiring said brush cutter, so I attacked it tonight with the strimmer and Flymo and sorted
it. I now ache like i've done a Marathon in a spacesuit!!
So now i'm going to veg out tomorrow building my big Airfix Mossie just to wind her up
(she hates the smell the Airbrush makes) wink
