Vanilla ice cream recipes?
Discussion
Anyone got a tried and tested vanilla recipe? I've tried a couple in the past - one was a full custard recipe (came out too custardy in taste!) and one was a non-cooked variant (from the Ben & Jerry's cookbook, IIRC) which wasn't rich or tasty enough.
I'm considering trying a gelato recipe - perhaps number two from here but with proper pod as well as essence.
Any suggestions?

Here you go
This is simply epic, and easy to make without an ice cream maker. It has a 'cheesecake' tang due to the fromage frais.
The recipe is easy to adapt to vanilla rather than nutmeg (just substitute the nutmeg with the seeds scraped from a whole vanilla pod, soaked in hot water), however lemon and lime zest also work well.
Keep the vanilla pod to flavour sugar.

Better than 'standard' vanilla? I would have been put off by the marscapone and fromage frais content...Mobile Chicane said:

Is that why you recommended that recipe, or just a bonus? (I have a Gaggia, BTW.)mft said:

Would this Delia recipe go ok with my Tarte au Citron? I'll make it with vanilla
Thanks,
Nick
Tarte tatin, yes. Tarte citron, no. Would this Delia recipe go ok with my Tarte au Citron? I'll make it with vanilla

Thanks,

ETA: You could use double cream in place of the creme fraiche and mascarpone, however I'd be inclined to search out a 'vanilla ice cream recipe', rather than do that.
