TVR S3 Problem please help

Hi everyone!

I bought a 1990 TVR s3 a week ago, absolutely loving it but one small problem...

Every now and again i try to start the car and nothing happens, i can here a small click and the battery light comes on. I take the key out and try several times then it just starts as normal after several attempts. Any idea what this can be? Starter motor? Battery? immobiliser?

Any help will be appreciated.

is it hot when it does this? If so comon problem, rebuild and clean can help I had new starter and heat shield fitted to fix mine.

Ahh yeah I had this gremlin too.

Cleaning all the connectors on the starter and various other problems seemed to solve it for me.

It certainly sounds like the yellow connector problem

This happens to me allot. I then switch off the heater and the cooling fan and it starts up straight away.

Welcome to the wonderful world of TVR-S ownership.

I had this problem on and off for the last year. It usually let me down at just the wrong time, e.g. when out with SWMBO.
A recon starter motor sorted it out for me.

Same resolution as Bob for me. The starter motor solenoid connections had begun to disintegrate, giving exactly the symptoms you have.

Another vote for the starter motor from me.

The fault tends to be very random & it may pay dividends to get yours refurbed.

Another vote for the starter solenoid. Had mine rebuilt starts first time every time since.
