After my first TD at Goodwood last week I have had the car out tonight for a look over it.

Oil on the dipstick. There are 6 small 'x' marks on the end and when cold it only covers the first 'x'.

Does this level sound ok please?

Also coolant. It is on the 'Min' mark when cold, is that ok please?

Thank you.

Nick

That is on the lowest mark for the oil. I found the level sensitive for mine. Drive on a very slight incline and lost a 1/4 off the level. On the flat was fine. The coolant should be on minimum from cold and then will expand to the max line when hot.

Thanks mate.

It was on the flat for sure and cold. Just filled her up after a spin and same when warm.

Coolant. Min when cold and hot, so a refill? I could also hear the coolant 'swooshing' into the filler tank from the cockpit. Is that normal; for an S2 K series?

Only my 2nd full summer with it so still learning smile

You should get coolant expansion of about 1 1/2" when hot. Have you changed the cap on the tank? It might not be keeping the system pressurised. Get a new one from any landrover dealer for about £4 , as piece of mind etc. Wooshing noises, I can't usually hear above the noise of the VVC on mine. There should be a trickle of coolant returning in the upper hose to the tank when running. If the temps are fine, just keep it above minimum when cold.

Thanks again.

Not seen that much expansion today. I drove the nuts off it Monday around Goodwood (oh boy was that fun!)

It was sitting on minimum before setting out tonight, and seemed to be barely above that when back and hot. Think I'll buy some top up fluid tomorrow. The wooshing was heard as I was off throttle at 40mph say. Not constant either.

I'll monitor it. New rad cap from Elise Parts 4 months ago. New pump and coolant at similar time so a bit perplexed.

The oil on the min. marker, does that need a top up also?

Cheers.

Yes, top the oil, especially with doing track things, as you might have oil surge issues and more oil is better than no oil.

I read I should use the same oil as is currently in there rather than to mix...would you agree? I'll have to ring the service agent.

You could do if it is easy to do. I know that Back On Track, who do mine use Valvolene 0W40,but have never had to add to it over a year and 3.5k miles. K series don't use oil, unless there is a problem. Unless the garage only fill to the minmum, which I have known before on company cars and main dealers.................

Made a call to my Lotus specialist and they use Millers 10/40. Not heard of Millers before, but I'm no tech wink

I may well call them back to explain and ask how much they usually fill to.

Do you know where my oil should be on the dip stick when cold (and flat) pls?

max is the upper cross and min is the lower one. You can get Millers from anywhere. Good stuff, so don't worry about that.Try any car wholesaler like Partco, Cafco etc...........

Should it hit about the middle you think, or upper?
