Anyone got experience of the Ghibli?

If you're thinking of one, tread carefully. They look pretty good and can seem good value, till they start costing you money, big money, very soon.
Neighbour had 2 Ghibli's, 2 Quattroporte's, then Ghibli Cup, then 3200. They all had their problems, one of the Ghiblis, was taken back as they could never get the repairs right (after like 7 times trying, had to get lawyers involved).
Personally, I can see the appeal, and the person considering one is probably thinking "HOPEFULLY it wont go wrong, much..." Mate, it probably will. There's a reason they are (relatively) cheap. Cheap things nearly always end up being expensive...
He's now got a 4200(?the latest one with the good F1 box). Hasn't given him a problem in nearly a year. Very good looking car too (Ghibli Cup mean looking mother, okay not pretty per se, but looks the biz)
ps. cheers for the previous advice, but I ended up buying her an MGF, she didnt like the look of the MX5 (good coz it saved me some £££), now if she would just get a move on and get her licence, I could do with a chauffeur...

I have worked on a few ghibls when i worked for a mazza dealer the cup vertion is good to drive a bit crampt if your tall like me The downside is so many things go wrong with them if you can find a cheap one that has been very very well looked after you will be ok but oil leaks galore suspention steering joints all suffer regular failings discs pads water pumps still a great car when they are running ok so much power

In a 360?? Willing to work for free... as long as you pick up the bill for insurance/fuel/tyres
Probably cheaper to hire a limo full of lap dancers to take you everywhere thinking about it. Damn.

I used to own a 1969 4.7 ghibli - and it was one of the most beautiful cars ever - and was a hoot to drive.
It wasn't Muira/Daytona rival - it was a true GT - but achingly gorgeous.
You can pick up a MINT one for £25,000 - although you must have a garage (as it's rusts overnight if left outside in England!)
There was a very limited run of 4.9's - and even rarer convertables - but factory covertable go for circa 60-70K....

so 6' 3" might be a problem then. Planning on popping too Meredien/Modena in Lyndhurst next saturday and hoping they will have one in there to at least get a feel for.
Had a guy in my old office who communted into London in a Ghibli cup every day for two years before his wife wrecked it one weekend. He never had many problems...

cheers for that mate, looks like i might can that idea. Better to go in eyes wide open I guess. I'm not actively looking as I still love the chim but if I do glance something and it catches my eye then its worth investigating. Really i should be chucking any extra wedge in buying a half decent second car that isnt completely fed and getting this excessively large garage built.
No worries on the advice, the MGF aint a bad car and to be honest the winning factor for most of those little cabrios is based on looks. Just need to make sure she doesnt give it any welly in the wet, or she will face the wrong direction. Nice idea with the chauffeur, I knew there was one thing that is worthwhile from being tied down
good luck with the search for the new toy mate. If I ever get around to mailing you back I might take you up on that offer of a night in town.

Yes! Do tell her to take it steady in the wet; I had a VVC as a hire car in Jersey a few years ago, went on a late night blast (only 40mph limit there )...great fun, stuck to the road very well. The next day went into town in the rain, put the boot down coming off a dual carraigeway at 20 mph, spun right round and nearly hit the quayside!
Any more thoughts on swapping Ali?

has Psychobert told you about his little "incident" in an MGF when his TVr was off the road. Called me on the day he picked it up and i warned him to take it easy coming off roundabouts in the wet. By lunchtime the next day he was coming off a roundabout in the wet and ..........
My advice was based on the fact I spun mine exiting a roundabout back in 1999. Oops, theres the central reservation.
Ben, she can chauffeur me in her MGF!! Having said that she wasnt too bad driving either the 360 or the 355, but couldn't insure her for long (1 week max), as the costs were seriously prohibitive for a provisional licence.
Phil, she loves the MGF, from what I can gather (although the man who truly understands a woman deserves a medal). I've already forwarded your advice to her re: driving in the wet, although I drove it in the snow and had quite a laugh sliding it around.
Personally I'd advise against the Ghibli, it'll more likely be malfunctioning more often than not, and it wont be cheap to resolve. But I know how you are thinking, after the TVR, most cars will seem a little boring. Consider alternatives, I dont think the Ghibli warrants the possible hassles.

glad she likes it mate - would love to have seen a pic of the 355 or the 360 with L plates on it.

That was about how it happened.. Tried the same roundabout in the S a couple of days ago and noticed the camber was less than friendly. Still, we live and learn..
Back on topic; no idea about the car, but have seen a few around and I'd certainly be tempted..
