Clutch Problems

Hi,
I jumped into the car a couple of weeks ago to go for a drive. The clutch was not working well so checked the level and found it almost empty - topped it up and pumped the pedal a few times and it worked perfect.
I went to use the car today and the reservoir is empty again and the clutch is not working well.

I would like to replace the master cylinder anyway as it looks tatty and guess I should replace the slave cylinder while I am at it. What should I go for? I remember reading somewhere that the old unit is off a Saab and is better replaced with a Ford unit? Or it could have been the other way around. Any advice is as always appreciated.

No, thats the brakes !


Master cylinder is probably common to many other vehicles (but I don't know which) but while some may look the same the diameter of the piston could be different. A good motor factors could maybe match it for you or pays your money and get one from a TVR specialist ?
Think the slave cylinder seems to be fairly unique to TVR, there is a Land Rover one that fits but thread connection is different so pipe has to be "tweaked"

I have jacked it up and found the slave cylinder is leaking. I will just need to source a replacement.

Here you go on flea buy right now. Item number 230472673730 you will need a 7/16 nipple as this one is imperial these are available from Car Builder Solutions for a small fee - postage will cost more than the nipple but still cheaper than a specialist TVR replacement. Fitting guide on here too in owners cars area added by Mark (Mep) I think? Good luck and HTH. PS mine needs doing as slave is dripping very slightly

Just fitted the new (OE) Land Rover clutch slave cylinder. Works an absolute treat. The only mod I needed was to change the union as mentioned. A local garage had one lying around, they cut the old one off and flared as required - I asked how much and the guy said "just geez the price O' a beer mate".

Fitting was straightforward and I was out in the little monster soon after.
