cant really afford the initial outlay of cash.
would prefer sopmething as a project for a few months which I can prepare over time. cant see extras costing that much to be honest, i have a good idea of things which will be required and i'm not entering this blind so to speak. any info on logbooks etc would be handy though

Id check prices before you dismiss it.
i've seen adds for things like fiesta's and even porker 924's for only a couple of k and when a roll cage can easily cost over 500 quid, fire extinguisher 200, electric cut outs 30, seat 200, harness 150 ect ect
and 2nd hand race cars often come with spares, spare sets of wheels and some times even a trailer....
Id sit down and work out how much it will cost you in bits before you start...
