What tyres would you recomend?

Hi all, recently purchased a V6 S2. She needs some TLC and so I've given her new Gaz all round, brakes, filters rear window hood etc etc!

I would like to put some new boots on her. I want them to be predominately for grip especially in the wet!

I know this is likely to start up a big debate but hey, hear we go!!!!!!

You are correct in that this will re-start an age old debate, however, the first problem you may find is trying to source tyres in the correct size (apparently not too easy).
So, are you running standard 15" wheels?
People can obviously only comment on what they have run.
In my case, when I bought mine, it had mis-matched and very old boots. I tried my damndest to scrub em off 'cos I am tight and hate to throw out a tyre with tread. I failed and in the end replaced them with Toyo CF1's. I find them nice, good traction in all weathers but bear in mind the S is quite light at the rear, even for the modest power output, so a heavy foot is going to induce some slide no matter what rubber you have (I kinda like this).
Phillpot has recently fitted the same tyre with his new mini-lites so can give you another review hopefully.
Anyway, they get my recommendation, we will see what others say.

Done very few miles yet (and none wet) so can't comment much but they do "look right" and are reasonable price and are well spoken of on the Chimaera pages.
Prior to buying these to go on my look alike Minilites I had Vredstein's on my 8 spokes, for a budget price tyre thought they were pretty good (but then I'm no Lewis Hamilton) !

Bridgestone ER 300 seem the norm on these cars, no problem on mine.
Have heard good things about the Toyo CF1's though.

I have Toyo CF1's on the V8S which haven't been used yet - but I also had a pair on the front of my daily drive and they have been pretty good - maybe not so important on a TVR but the lack of tyre noise is really noticeable.

I would take advice of Bomber on here - he is the manager of my local National Tyres and Autocare and also the TRVCC RO, so knows TIVs and tyres. He owns something in the region of 20 different cars, most performance, which he tracks (and although didn't enter this year has a formula golf car ready for a racing season) so is a bit of a font of knowledge in this area. I go nowhere else for my tyres, exhausts, MOTs etc and get a good price (often parts at trade), good advice and an unbiased opinion.

BTW his Chim 500 (well breathed on) sits on Toyo tyres. I know he has had a bit of a bad press on here in the past on a couple of occasions, but there are two sides to every story (I won't get in to these even by PM).

I can't offer and opinion on your tyres as I run 17" wheels on Goodyear Eagle F1s - fitted when purchased and when replaced to keep commonality Bomber recommended staying with them or doing all four together to TOYO (he suggested the TOYO/goodyear split was not good as they perform very differently apparently) and as the difference was only about £5 a corner stuck with GY

I put the Bridgestone ER300s on the S a couple of years ago and was very pleased with them even in the wet.

Shop around. I was just quoted about £170 each Bridgestone at my preferred fitters.

However, I just paid £155 for 2 and bokked her in elsewhere, that's a huge difference (both are well known places).

The £170 sounds far too high - I paid £61 per corner full fitted/balanced, etc. a couple of years ago and I know things might have gone up a bit but that's just silly!

I bought a pair of Bridgestone ER300 in Dec 2008 for £65 each, fitted, etc.

I agree £170 each is stupid money (national chain normally very good value too).

I need them doing this week as the Scotland trip signed the death sentence for one tyre. Amazingly for me I was under the car yesterday and saw some canvas on the inside. I was having a good look as the rears weren't going to last much longer. Glad I noticed it before S Club, and I hope to MOT her weds/thurs.
