I'm going nuts! (vol 2)

Anyone know where i can get some hollow steel hex bar?
Ideally it would be stainless or at least rust resistant with the internal shaft an appropriate size to tap for an M10 thread.
My top secret pension fund is on the verge of collapse if i cannot source some steel somewhere
Thanks guys

If 30mm isn't long enough (that seems to be extension nut length) you could probably get some bar from an extension nut manufacturer.

It can be obtained, just google hollow hex bar to find suppliers - but it will not be cheap unless you can find an offcut or a bar which has been deformed,(Most of these bars will be long lengths which would be machined on multispindle lathes - hence a bent bar cannot be used).
Otherwise.......
1) How long does it need to be?
2) How Deep does the thread need to go?
3) Does anything pass from end to end?
Would the following be possible when considering the above:
Take a length of standard hex bar, machine a male thread, attach an extension nut as mentioned above.
And finally, attach whatever it is to the free female end of the extension nut.
The above does of course require the answer to No. 3 to be No!

For an M10 thread you need a nominal hole of 8.8mm if I remember correctly, you can use say 9.0mm but the thread wont be as deep so wont have the same strength.

Try this guy, this tube would work albeit with a terrifyingly thin wall thickness.
Try searching for 9mm ID Tube (Internal Diameter)

Thanks for the input guys. For those who didn't see my previous thread ideally i am looking to buy something very similar to an extension/coupling nut but it needs to be 90mm long, hex shaped, rust resistant and an M10 thread either all the way through or at least 40mm deep or so.
I have tried all sorts of variables, the last being hex shaped turnbuckles but so far the very few hits i have had have been quite expensive and custom made.
I need to keep costs as low as possible and need a bulk-ish amount. The bent off cuts of hex bar/pipe might be a good idea though at the moment i cant seem to find a supplier who do hollow hex bar in steel, only brass seems available.
Apologies for the rambling post.

Well, if I'd known you had a previous thread...
Have a look at rigging screws the centre part looks like it might be what you're after.

Appreciate the persistence Bill, a left hand thread at one end wouldn't be the end of the world.
The best price i have had so far was around £8 each but could do with them being at least half that if possible. As i say, my quotes were for custom stuff hence the price (which i guess is quite reasonable) but what i really need is something off the peg i can subvert from its intended use.

Having had a bit of a dig around (though clearly not as much as you have had!), I've reached the conclusion that you're going to be very unlikely to get anything off the shelf that'll do.
Primarily because DIN 6334 states 30mm length for M10 couplers, so pretty much everything off the shelf will be for this standard.
There's various Chinese, Indian and other places that appear to be happy to quote for bulk (some for 1000 pieces, some with a minimum order of 5 tonnes, which could prove a few too many!), but I suspect that their lead times might be a little too much for you.
So, I think you're going to be looking for a friendly local engineering company who'll knock some up for you. They'll be able to get the apppropriate hex stock in, drill and tap it, without great difficulty.
This guy might be able to help, or hopefully point you in the right direction:

His stuff is usually smaller, though.

Cheers Bill, glad to see there are stil a few good folk who will lend a hand left in the world.
That price matches some of the quotes ive been getting but would eat into any profits i may make.
Got a company from the states getting back to me tommorrow with a price which im hoping will be favourable, the imperial stuff they do seems well priced so fingers crossed.
If you ever find yourself in Manchester Bill let me know, i know a few choice establishments with fine ales!
