An attempt to clean up all the political threads in the NPE forum!

According to Robert (I caused the global crash) Peston, the Tories have shelved plans to change inheritence tax, and are taking on the LibDems plan to create a £10k tax threshhold.

Also the LibDems consider the immediate £6bn in cuts to be insignficant, so have agreed to it.

Wasn't Nick Robinson suggesting just now a Ken Clarke/Vince Cable double act at the treasury, and the boy George out on his arse?

Ah Robert Peston, I will wait until the Queens Speech then. As I usually go for the opposite of what he says.

I'm still hoping that the Conservatives blow out the LibDems and go into office alone, it is the second best choice of the party.

A coalition is not good for the conservatives.

I agree, if they do a coalition, it will be a mess and not something to be trusted. It seems all too obvious from this end.

I can imagine them lined up opposite labour in the HOC. There is going to be so much bullst and jeering, they will achieve absolutely nothing for months.

Give Mr Speaker a gun, I reckon.

A £10,000 tax rate would make those tax credits redundant, surely?

I hope if there is a deal it is for the long term. A short lived coalition that leads to an election when the Tories will be at their most unpopular will not be worthwhile.

Or a very short time, just long enough to get all the skeletons out of the cupboard.

It's a very good policy, the only good LibDem policy, but a good one nonetheless.

It is ridiculous that people who earn so little paytax and it will cost less than suggested because it will help to eliminate the benefit trap that under Labour has made it more rewarding for some people to stay on benefits than to work.

Hasn't it already been said that the deal involves no-one walking within four years?

How credible is that, having seen the Lib-Dims behaviour in the past few days?

Yes, I think their behaviour over the past couple of days will have put a sizeable dent in their fanbase.

How so? apart from holding the country to ransom, which is fair comment. They said they would start with the Cons, they did, they said Winky would have to go before then talking to Labour, he's gone, they talked to Labour, albeit it not very seriously, and now they're back with the Cons.

Cameron didn't get a majority, Winky has gone (and he didn't even have to stand down as leader of Labour as it turned out), Cameron becomes PM. Clegg has done Brown up like a kipper.

It doesn't look too bad to me in the absence of an overall Cons majority.

So we all save a little money on our tax bills. Whoopee. Watch, as the 40% rate slides down to make up the difference, and most of us 22% ratepayers end up not benefiting....

That'd be a good start.
