Hi I was out for a spin in my S2 today and was running fine until I approached a T junction put the clutch in to change down and the engine died.It would not start again occasionally it tried to fire but would run rough then die I suspect fuel but don't know alot about injection systems how can I check to see if fuel is getting through or if anyone has any other ideas about the fault I would appreciate any feedback.
Hi Alan, there is a schraeder valve on top of the fuel rail next to plenum, take off the plastic cap and carefully depress the plunger. Remember to cover with a rag first as this is the pressurised side of the system. The other thing to check is to get someone to turn on the ignition while you listen just in front of the nearside rear wheel (fuel pump location), you should hear it prime and pump. There are several causes for non delivery of fuel:
Filter in swirl tank at base of fuel tank blocked
Filter in fuel pump banjo blocked
Main fuel filter blocked (silver cylinder in chassis above fuel pump)
Fuel pump electrical connections(they always corrode due crap location)
Fuel pump relay (passenger footwell under glovebox area).
So primarily listen for sound of pump priming and the gurgle as fuel is returned back to the tank, if no sound on switching on ignition look at the fuel pump connectors.
PS if you have an immobiliser that will also usually be wired into the fuel pump circuit.
Good luck

Hi Here is an update I tried the schrader valve and nothing came out I got access to the fuel pump and there is no voltage going to it. I went back to the yellow pump relay and when I switch the ignition on I have 12v on 3 of the wires the black and the red as well as the blue and red but nothing on the black and red so I guess it's a possible relay what I find confusing is somewhere on route the colour of the wire changes to black and yellow at the pump. Also I did try wiring the pump direct to 12v and this didn't get the car going either maybe 2 problems.
I checked the fuse that's ok it could be that the pump has taken out the relay I have ordered another relay to see if that gives me 12v at the pump if it does then before I connect the wires I will feed 12v direct to the pump from the battery to see if that works not enough time to do it today. One other thing I have been qouted £120 + VAT for a pump does anyone know a cheaper alternative?
ebay is your friend and from what I've seen expect to pay around £50 but make sure you get the right one...

Well the relay arrived this morning fitted it no change
still no voltage at the pump end. Reading the Steve Heath manual there is mention of a inertia switch but I can't find one does anyone know if fitted where it is? Thanks for the earlier posting recommending Ebay for the replacement pump if the pump turns out to be faulty as well will get one from there.

Just for interest what mislead me was that when you turn the ignition switch to the on position it puts 12v to the pump for initial prime and if you don't turn switch further to engage starter motor it drops the voltage off until you actually turn the switch to start the car then 12v becomes permanent on the pump. So everytime I turned switch on and checked voltage at the pump there wasn't any it only became apparant when my friend gave me a hand and monitored the pump voltage while I turned the ignition switch on.
