From what I read it is a 'must have' if you want a compact, digital range finder type camera with manual aperture and shutter control and a perfect lens.

Is it too good to be true?

I want one, and would probably prefer one over the newer GF1 (no EVF) or pen or G11.

A colleague of mine has one. I've used it a couple of times and it is very nice. Digital viewfinder is slightly annoying, and it's disappointing that it's plastic rather than metal casing. It's lovely to use though, the manual lens controls are just gorgeous. Produces very nice results. It's a bit on the large size for a compact though, being closer to an entry level SLR. Lots of nice touches like the built in flash being able to do 45 degree bounce or direct.

Been wanting one of these for a while, I fear it would just sit on a shelf unused though.

If you don't want to spend that much, this is cheaper, smaller, can do fully manual, and rangefinder available. Mine is always with me.

(please...let's not get into the why pay for the badge debate!)

The joy of the D2, for me, will be the shutter and apeture adjustments on teh dials - rather than going into a bunch of menus etc.

Re: cost, I don't think £600 for a used D2 is that much considerign there is littel else out there with the same combination of manual usability and lens.

I have a DSLR, but don't use it much due to bulk.

The only choice for me is Dlux2 or GF1/pen - but the GF1 has no viewfinder.
