VW Eos - reliability

Anyone out there with a VW Eos or had experience with one?
Looking at used ones in Greece, and like all cars here it would have taken a bit of beating as the roads are crap - even worse than post-snow storm UK!
I am looking specifically for info on roof reliability and nay other major issues. Some US sites say there are water leak issues. In Greece that is not such a big issue but still a bit poor for a VW folding hardtop - any truth to this or just US propaganda against foreign cars?
MX-5 DISCLAIMER: The car is for a woman so not interested in RWD, balance, power to weight ratio etc. Yes, I know the MX-5 is better and I would take on over this but it is not for me. I have suggested the MX-5 and has been rejected. Thanks anyway.

Engines. Fine
Running gear. Nothing too bad.
Electric Windows. Prone to failing
Roof Mechanism - Generally not bad.
Roof Leaking water. Absolutely the worst car EVER in the history of mankind for this! Avoid like the plague! Current VW technical approved "fix" is to replace EVERY seal on the roof mechanism. And a bit of other work involving drainage routes. Fine if it's warranty. But budget in the region of £2K if it isn't!

Eos is a nice car, probably the best choice out of the mid-sized convertibles on market. I think they are generally OK for reliability, but its probably worth checking out if they use the same ABS Control Unit as the Golf MK5. These have been failing in big numbers recently, indicated by an ESP light on dash, and attract a £1500 bill to fix. "think" all you like, I'm telling you 100% fact they have an alarming tendancy to leak like sieves! As for the ABS unit fault "generally" they are the 1.6 versions of Touran and Golf. And a couple of random Deseasels. If you have serviced your car at a VW dealer they (VW UK) will contribute anything up to 100% parts and labour. If you've gone the indie route. TS JQ said:

Well you learn something new every day. I presumed they were alright. I'll never look at another Eos again without thinking 'that car probably leaks'Utter crap car,had one for 12 months which leaked,the spare wheel was under water when it rained,after 8 months of arguing VW gave us a new one,although we had to wait another 4 months for that to arrive.

Right, done some digging around and seems to be big pile of ste! Leaks and ABS sensors - leaks are non-curable no matter how many times seals are changed and ABS is a big bill, 1,5k....
What do the 'testers' do when they take the cars to extreme conditions to 'endurance' testing??? Some owners are complaining of leaks within a a few weeks of having the car!
I told her that we will steer well clear of the French CC's as they are likely to be crap but it seems the VW is just as crap but more expensive...

I believe the Seals issues and serve leaking was pretty much cured in the 2009 model year upgrade.. The demo my marketing guy ran over winter (2.0tsi 200 Individual 2009MY) certainly had no issues with water leaking..
A couple of cars i have helped source for clients have had issues with the leaking roof seals but seem to have been fixed after a visit to the dealer for replacements..
The ABS unit i believe is shared with the 1.4TSI engine and 2.0tdi engines, as said the demo our guy ran certainly had no issues in 5months / 10k

They endure lots of free champagne, first class hotels, hot sun shine, then return home and gush how great it is. Afterall, it's a VW. Built to last.I tried finding some shots of the Eos doing this testing but all I came up with was the Touran disguised as below. Maybe the tossers covered the Eos roof in the same when when testing for leaks and deemed it production ready.

No. absolutely no one in the UK has any experience of this car. Nobody outside of VAG anyway.I live near milton keynes and even there you don;t see Eososososoesososes!
I have a sneaking suspicion the dull focus or slightlymorecomplexroofed c70 are the way to go.

Good call on the Volvo/Focus. Thing is the Eos is down to about 16-17k Euros here in Greece, Focus is very scarce and Volvo too pricey. Will check the Focus track record though as it might be worth hunting around for one instead.Edit to add:

Did read this though:
The EOS roof does not need to be re-sealed, you just have to lubricate the seals every so often as detailed in the manual.
Ours were done every three months and it did not leak.
The only problem - lubricant is very expensive. Around £40 for a very small bottle.

Really?! I've seen loads! I even saw one get rear-ended by a Ka on the B526 t'other week.OP - there's a Focus CC that might be ok if you can get past how gash it looks.
