I have a 350d and it takes some pretty good photos given that I'm not the most expert operator!

I've been offered a 450d (with 18-55) by a work colleague for £300. I reckon my 350d is probably worth between £150 and £200 (with 18-55).

Is the upgrade something I'd particularly notice or appreciate?
I also have a nifty fifty & a Canon 55-250IS.

Viewfinder will be improved, 450D is what 12mp? so more resolution probably better high ISO noise.

Better LCD, better AF system, live view, spot meeter.

Slight increase in fps (3 - 3.5 I think) and a deeper buffer too.

All round upgrade to menu's buttons and operation also.

I think a worthwhile upgrade ( I moved from a 350d to a 7D).

I have never owned a 350D, but do have the 450D, which is in my opinion a brilliant camera for the money. Get it and enjoy it. smile

Agreed

Its just not heavy or bulky enough for me. At the end of the year I will take the jump to a 50/60d. Alternatively I may try a grip and see if the extra weight "does it" for me.

I purchased the grip for my 450d from Jessops (for £95) last weekend and it is superb, totally changes the feel of the camera.

Would certainly recogmend it.

Did you opt for the AA batteries to go with?

I went from 350d to 40d (s/hand) just for the screen size more than anything, but still used the 350d at Silvestone this weekend to keep the 40D dry!

If not bothered by screen size I'd save the money until you start finding the limit of the 350D and/or the lenses you have.

But it's an ok price (450d for £299 body only and 18-55 EF-S for £84 s/hand from place I got my 40D from).

Is that the non canon grip? been thinking about that myself for the battery life.

7day shop do non OE batteries (got them for my 350d Battery Grip) which work a treat and save a fortune on OE, must get an additional one for the 40D

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm doing a bit of DSLR research myself. As far as I can tell the 450D was replaced by the 500D a year or two ago, which itself has been recently superseded by the 550D... so why is it still so widely available everywhere, and not dirt cheap either?

I'm certainly considering it, as it is considered a level above the 1000D which feels a bit cheaper but the different canon offerings on sale has me confused!

Is a Ford Focus from 3 years ago any worse than one from today? Ok, it might not have every bell and whistle of the latest model but it'll still do exactly the same job.

Went for the proper Canon one, looked at the other options but decided the Canon ones looked better.

Must say the build quality of the grip, and the extra buttons for shooting in portrait are well worth the investment.

@ Scott - the Canon grip comes with two battery cartridges, one for one or two lithium batteries and the second for the AA's so you have the best of both worlds, not sure how long it will run for on AA's though!

Canon seem to be unwilling to kill the 450D for some reason. I'm sure they must have stopped producing it, but it does seem to be hanging around, and people do seem to be buying them.

It's almost like the 500D will be orphaned first in fact.
