I cant believe this actually exists:

http://gizmodo.com/5528001/acadalus-self+leveling-...

automatic tripod leveller- $5000 !!

versus:

around £5.

in fact, for $5000 you could buy the most amazing tripod in the world, with a built in spirit level that lights up at night, and buy photoshop, and still have enough monies left over to send a team of sherpas to walk to the horizon with a spirit level just to check its straight.

"for that price it should incrementally rotate and take paranarimic shots. It should also make me dinner and clean the house"

After a long week, made me chuckle!

I won't be buying one though, even if it comes with a team of Sherpas - clearly some people have more money than sense (bet David Beckham has one wink )

So, you're paying a huge amount per hour for a studio and support services, you have a £10k camera body, a £10k lens, a £20k digital back and just to slow your life down for your critical shots you use a 20p mass produced 'spirit' level that probably offers the same degree of accuracy and fitness for purpose as a politician's expenses claim form.

I would imagine that for the right people owning or renting one of these probably pays for itself quite rapidly.

I do like the Sherpa idea though.

for the manufacturer's attempt at justification.

I assumed it was really automatic, like as in lets you take level pictures from the pitching deck of a moving ship or something.

Apparently not. frown

Less miles out then me without it!

Actualy its not as much use as I thought it woudl be, the viewfinder grid is more use. I've also enabled the in viewfinder spirit level but havnt used it in anger yet.

Have I missed something here ?

I regard image composure as key. This thing looks useless to me.

Compose your image then let this level it , you shouldnt be that far off that this will make a difference to the composition.
