A race car.

Any advice welcome.

No real race experience yet apart from the odd trackday but I do have the required licence. I'll be competing in the irace series next year (check it out, great production car series).

So, should I dive in at the deep end and get a MY99 WRX STi race/rally import or do I do the sensible thing and buy a well proven and developed Proton Satria GTI that is a consistent performer, but won't be anywhere near the front?

Answers on the back of an envelope to the usual address.

What is your budget?

What does everyone else run in the series you are looking at?

Buy something ready built and RWD!

My budget is around 10-15k for the initial purchase, have access to a tow vehicle (Subaru Outback) and a cheap trailer so most of that can be spent on the car, so I want to get something well prepped. It’s why I keep on coming back to this bloody Proton Satria. I know who has raced it and how it has been set up. It would be up against a N15 Nissan Pulsar SSS, Pug 206 GTi 180 and a few other similar cars. That’s in its class. The race series is dominated by STI’s and Elise’s depending on the circuit. All pretty relaxed, low budget production car stuff.

It will be my first year after getting my license so want to keep it relaxed and hopefully not too expensive.
