Discussion
if you put a pic on the same webspace as your profile pic and then post here with this code:
[pic] www.???????????????.com/ThePicOnMyWebspace.jpg [/pic]
(WITHOUT the spaces) ... it'll turn up in the post

Cheers for the thumbs up chaps, only had the camera a few days & its my first foray into digital cameras so I'm just getting used to it.
On the photography side im ok, as ive had an ok SLR before & churned out some pretty good pics.
Now this pic was taken 5 mins after the other shot I took & I think this is an ace pic in terms of light, rather unusual angle, shadow, framing etc etc-
However I really just got lucky due to the weather at the time.
The stuff I belive digital should be good at- is the ability to mess around with the shot afterwards on the PC, particually with shots were everything was not in my favour naturally i.e this one-
or say with this one- where i'd like to erase the red crane on the right, but can't figure out how to do it.
Thing is ive just got Microsoft photo editor on my PC & I can't seem to get it to do much, do I need special softwere?
Edited to add, ref the middle pic, I think it was the light meter of the camera throwing a wobbly when i took the pic sideways (i.e turned the camera to get portrait view) as it got more of the sky? because taken as a landscape pic it came out reasonably ok.

iguana said:You may try it by copying a bit of sky (well - cloud) from another section of the picture, and then paste it over the crane.

There are, however, software packages that provide special tools for image retouching.
Some of them cost serious money (Photoshop), offer good value (Jasc PaintShop Pro), or are entirely free because they are open source, like TheGimp.
TheGimp wasn't easily installed on Windows in the last versions, but there is now a website that explains it thoroughly and provides a download link:

If it is only the image with the crane you want to edit, send it over and I'll have a go

Some nice shots Iguana - especially the second one - I like the symmetry, perspective and the deep blue sky. A couple of the others are a bit dark - the camera's exposure system has been unduly influenced by the chunks of bright sky. You'll soon learn to anticipate this and use exposure compensation (eg +1EV). Or just bung it in PS of course...!
Kojak- lovely sunset cerb pic
Get Carter- did you use photoshop or a different method to get rid of the crane?
Simpo- I'll have to read through the instructions to see how to adjust manually & if its posible (I think it is, cam is a Nikon 2100 coolpix- chose it coz it got good reviews in the mags & on here (think Luca B had one too) & it seems a great little camera that i got a fab deal on- I really wanted a good optical rather than just digital zoom & not many others in this price range did)
So anyone fancy having a go at lightening up the dark street shot, just to show me just what could be done if I got the right softwere?

Didn't even have to open Photoshop... in Paint Shop Pro there is a 'clone' brush. (The icon is 2 brushes). All you have to do is right click where you want to clone then 'paint' with the left mouse button down. In the case of the crane, I just clicked on the cloud next to it.
Comes in really useful. I don't even worry if there is a telegraph pole in shot these days as it's only a matter of a minutes work to lose it - for instance... there was a blimmin' great line of them right the way accross this pic>> www.stevecarter.com/screen6.jpg
Now you see em... now you don't
