Guys,
Anywhere recommended for getting prints?
I got 40x free prints from Jessops with my 1000D and I have just picked up the first batch but i'm not too happy with them.
They seem to be lacking sharpness and detail compared to looking at the same image (jpg) on my laptop. I know there will always be some slight differences between what I see on the screen and what gets printed but it's not right.
Cheers,
Phill

I use www.photobox.co.uk. On the rare occasion there's been a problem, they've always fixed it very quickly. Once the prints were creased by the postman - they sent replacements even though it wasn't their fault.

Curiously their site currently seems to be listing all print prices "from £8510.57"
Hope they are some good prints

Do you use photo manipulation software Phill?... Paint Shop, Photoshop, Gimp etc?
If so, select 'sharpen', then save, before you upload to the printer's website.
I've tried it in the past but i'm never sure if i'm doing it right! If so, select 'sharpen', then save, before you upload to the printer's website.

Maybe i'll try a couple of different versions and see what looks best.
Phil,
What size is the original file you are having printed and what size is the print?
In the good old days a 35mm negative was pretty much always the same size so things were quite easy to work out.
Now files can be tiny for web display through to massive for digitally augmented original images demanded by the photo agencies. Much more to be aware of at each stage of the process after pressing the shutter button for the amateur snapper. You may me getting an unrepresentitavely bad result - or not. Difficult to tell at the moment.
What are you starting with?
Typicall a screen image at 1024 wide will be displayed at 72 pixels per inch - so up to about 15 inches will look 'ok'
1024 pixels at a print resolution of, say, 300 ppi (or DPI, much the same) would give slightly less than 3.5 inches width. Expand that, say, 6 inches for a 6x4 print and it will start to look quite ragged. There are some of the things you need to be aware of as you assess your printed results. It's not so easy really.

They are usually OK and as you say - and if there's a problem, they have dealt with it well, but three weeks ago my wife ordered a load of prints, some selecting the 'shrink to fit' option (to avoid cropping the images on 2 sides)
but they came back as a smaller image than expected, and with 4 white borders (as opposed to just 2).
I phoned them and they said sorry they have do have a problem at the moment and I could send them back for a refund, but they would not re-print them.
I asked if they would contact me when they have solved their issues, they said 'yes' but so far ....... silence.
