look closer, the car in the back is definitely an s-type... check out the sloping trunklid line.

Actually I think it is intentionally taller than the previous. It is also supposed to be roomier. Here is an article from Motor Trend (where I lifted the pic)...

I kind of like the styling treatment. I think of it as an "updated classic". 2003 is the expected launch date, so maybe even by this fall.

It looks like the lights and wings from a Merc E class; the rad from an old rover; wheels couresy of Max Power; Door mirrors a la BMW; and the whole thing like something my grandad might quite like (and I'm old enough to have attended the last State Funeral in the UK!).
Uurgh. And I really thought Jag was going to take a major step forward under Callum. What's he playing at?

I would have thought they'd have to make it taller, as the boot in the old XJ was crap - so shallow you could get F*ck all in it...
And you can't blame them for copying Mercs/BMWs, they're the class leaders so they're what people want (copying Mercs worked well enough for Lexus
) I just hope they don't loose the 'Jag' look, it would be a real shame if they just produced an S-class clone.

You'll have to check with Civic ESi on this, but I believe that the redsign is supposed to give much greater capacity in the boot. If they have taken the basic S-type concept and enlarged it, you should be able to get a lot in. I can practically put a swimming pool in the boot of the S-type (or two kids

Maybe you mean the XJ6 ?
I own an XJ8, and can confirm that I can get ten full bin
bags of garden rubbish in the boot,
spare petrol can, a carrier bag of Burt Bacharach CDs,
toolset, and still have room left.

True enough. Not all of us want to drive something German
and efficient.
Some of us are happy with unreliable
English cars that cost us 78 quid + VAT an hour at the
local dealers to repair.

I was talking about a '97 (I think give or take a year) XJR used for powertrain development I saw, that just struck me as being so shallow that it would be very hard to get stuff (suitcases etc) in.
When I said S class clone I was of course hoping the Jag would not just copy the s-class, but produce something that looked like an s-class, but had the reliability and cheap servicing of a 70's xj6

but then again is it a Audi, Merc or some other type of euro box.
