Tried search, but was not working. Out of interest, how much roughly would an OPC charge to replace the clutch on a C2s/C4s? (yes, i know i could ring them and enquire - but last time i did this i ended up speaking to some sales guy, who now insists on ringing me probably once a month to say "i have found you the perfect car sir" blabla )

Really fancy a 997t, but the misses reckons the house improvements should come first and that it is unfair the kids should all have to share the same bedroom because i have used the money to fill the garage with a £60k Porker ( she never seemed this selfish when i first met her hehe )

So, my thinking is - do i wait (probably till next year) and buy that 997T, or do i divert my search (and buy now) to a 4-5 year old C2s/C4s with around 20k - 40k miles on the clock - keep it a year and trade up to the 7T scratchchin

Am i right in thinking that a car with this sort of mileage is not *too* far away from a replacement clutch (ok, i appreciate you do not how the former owner/s have used/abused it, but is there an *average* life expectancy of a 997 clutch). I would be buying a car with an OPC warranty (private with remainder and subject to an inspection OR an OPC car ) and apart from brakes and tyres - can only think the other real expense would be - the clutch.

Just trying to piece together the costs associated with this car. Tyres, servicing costs, extended warranty (should i keep her long enough) and insurance, i have an idea of. The clutch - i have no idea how much an OPC would relieve me of, should i need one.

Thanks

Porsche price for clutch change on a 997 is around £550.00 for parts plus 6.5 hrs labour at around £110.00 plus vat, so you are looking at around £1300.00 all in.

Just had my clutch done at a very good indy up here in Scotland with genuine sachs clutch & paid £550.00 all in including new rms seal.

I guess it all depends on how it is driven.

My 997 C2S has just under 30k on it, and the clutch is showing no signs of wear.

Likewise I had a Cayman S with 40k on it, and that was fine on its original clutch.

Yep. My last 997 had 37k miles on it when I sold it and the clutch was fine. The car was used as a daily commuter in London stop/start traffic as well as quite a few track days, etc.

I've seen lots of 60k+ miles 997s on original clutches.

Ok, i asked an OPC today of *approx* cost to replace clutch. Seems the price could be as little as £900 - £1000, but if flywheel is worn - *add* another £1200ish. Apparently the flywheel is changed in 2-3 clutches out of 10!

Nice to hear of some people getting 50k+ miles out of one of these though

I remember once reading about a 130,000+ mile 996 which still had its original clutch!

If my clutch lasted that many miles, I'd wonder why I bothered buying a 911. #driveitlikeyoustoleit

That the clutch doesn't last a goodly number of miles is not because the car is being driven like it was stolen, but because it is being driven by someone who doesn't know how to drive a manual.
