Speedo not working - any ideas

Battery was flat the other day because of not being used for a while so put the charger on it (do this every month or so so not unusual) but when I went to drive it yesterday I noticed that the speedo isn't working (and hence digital mile-ometer also not moving), the needle just stays motionless at zero. I don't know if the recharging and the failure are connected, but seem like unlikely to be a coincidence, I may have caused a mini surge or something
I haven't checked fuses yet but is this a problem that others have had?

Does the rest of the dash still work? If so, I would look at the speedo sensor on the n/s rear wheel possibly playing up. Sadly it is built into the rear bearing assembly, so you have to change the complete assembly, if found faulty.

Everything else still appears to be normal, just the speedo not registering anything, and miles not increasing as I drive (I think that the speed and distance is linked on most cars)

Yep, that's consistent with the wheel sensor either failing or coming off. It attaches to the hub on the pax side rear.

Ah, thats interesting. I took the pax rear wheel off at the weekend to adjust my side scoop, I may have knocked something while I was doing it. What does the sensor look like and where is it?
Presumably there is a cable taking the data, could I have lost the connections there?

Look for a black cable, which exits under the wheel arch liner and heads along the wishbone and plugs onto a connector that is mounted on a small metal plate,

Is that the one that heads down through the wheelarch liner through a rubber doughnut grommet that you have to disconnect when you take the wheelarch liner out? If so then I may just have not plugged it in properly again...... Such are my mechanic skills.......

Actually, you are right, it goes in a black grommet, the one going under the liner is the rear lambda sensor.............
