Hi to my fellow TVR drivers,

Insurance time for me frown

Has anyone got any feedback/experiences of MSM Insurance?

I have just had a reasonable quote from them on my Chimaera.

As we all know most insurance companies are very good when they are taking your money, they certainly seem very helpful & polite with me at the winning my business stage.

So I am more interested in comments from anyone who has needed to claim from them, not that I plan to make a claim you understand.

Just doing some background research before I move from Direct Line.

Many thanks, here's to a glorious & sunny Chatsworth.

Hi
I arranged to insure my very recently acquired Chimaera with them, very pleasant and helpful staff I found. Problem was, they wouldn't provide a policy with agreed valuation. I think the reason was that I hadn't owned a car like this before and it isn't my only vehicle, so need to keep the NCB on the other car. I got the impression they would be happy to insure me after my first year's ownership!
Not sure this helps - good luck!
Mike

MSM are highly regarded with Kit Car owners. I was insured with them for my Westfield and would of insured the Griff with them but they were uncompetitive at the time.I always found that you could always speak to someone when you phoned and if they couldn't sort you out then and there, they would always phone back when they said they would.Certainly the best people I've dealt with in 24 years of motoring.

I agree with scorcher, there is always someone there and they are always helpful when you call them. Never had a claim (touch wood) but when I had issues getting evidence of my claim free history when my previous insurers were being difficult I offered to take the car off the road until I had it sorted. They told me not to be silly and just keep them updated on progress.

Thanks guys,

Getting closer to switching to MSM after all your positive comments.

I still welcome comments from anyone that has tested them with a claim.

Thanks to you all. Dave.

Hi, no other feedback other than the above.

However I went with MSM anyway.

The quote was very competitive and communication excellent.

The package seems good with use of the car in all European countries covered, Direct Line charged a £30.00 admin amendment fee for this when I was with them last year.

They also threw in free UK & European breakdown cover.

With all insurance policies you only really find out if it was a good buy when you are unlucky and have to make a claim.

At times like this there is enough stress & hassle without finding out you have been paying a cheat every month.

In my pessimistic opinion most insurance companies are professional non payers, thats their business after all.

There are plenty of horror stories out there, where insurers have given their honest claiming customers the right run around.

When shopping for insurance its all to easy to just buy on price, nobody wants to think about accidents ect during the process of finding an insurer.

Ask yourself the question; would you buy any other type of product without first fully understanding how it performs when you need it?

That's why I was, and still am, looking for feedback from someone who had made a claim with MSM.

I'd be interested too as i will be insuring my new T350 with MSM in the very near future. They were the only company to offer a price that was reasonable to me.

Anyway, i have been very impressed with them thus far, very quick responce and have been very helpful.

The proof will be in the pudding though when it comes to actually claiming, as the OP has suggested.

I currently pay £10pm for UK breakdown cover with the AA, MSM are offering UK and Euro breakdown for £80. Is this service anygood, or should i just stick to good old AA?

I took out MSMs breakdown cover. The info you get on it is a bit sketchy in my opinion. When I was with the AA I got an AA card with membership number, and plenty of paperwork about how to contact them if you need them etc. With MSM there's just a couple of paragraphs of info buried within the small print you get sent with the policy.

Do you have the AA recovery assistance? If not I'd add that on as if they can't fix the car themselves they'll tow it to a garage of your choice and pay up to £500 towards the repair costs. Great for a failed clutch, or even towards an engine rebuild.

So it's probably best that i stay with the AA policy then. To be honest that was my original thinking anyway.

If i break down i call one number and get it sorted, i dont want to contact the insurance company who then sorts out recovery. I'd rather just leave the insurance company out of it. Dont want to give them any excuses to raise premiums!

I dont think i have that other option you mentioned. When i took the policy out i had a Focus RS so didnt think it was worth it tbh. Now that im getting the TVR i might add that option. That £500 will pay half towards a new clutch, if a clutch is covered that is? Does the £500 cover wear and tear items?

Yeah clutch is covered, I know because 1 week before I got my car the previous owner had the clutch fail and he got £500 towards the bill from the AA. I think they pay for anything which stops you being able to drive the car (if they can't fix it themselves), and you can claim up to 3 times a year.

Oh yeah thats right i remember now. Athough if you feel the clutch slipping and call them before you clutch actually fails then they won't cover it. Bit strange???

So back to the original topic anyone actually had to claim with MSM then?

Bump to this.

About to renew with MSM, and price is good again - but just seeing if anyone else has further feedback?

1/2 the price of some of the clowns out there last year. Very friendly and a discount for TVR or PH members. No charges for the declared mods (shocks, exhaust, airbox etc)

No info on how good they are if you need to claim though. I seem to remembera thread that heaped praise on them though

Hope they come up with the goods in August again to save me titting about phoning round.

I can vouch for MSM on the service, I had a "Not at Fault" claim last year and they were excellent.

They also made sure I was covered for TAG (Goodwood track parade lap + gentle hill climb) at no extra charge.

Another interesting point worth considering is MSM do NOT load the premium for points.

Excellent price and top service, a combination you don't often find.

Recommended.

Went with MSM for the first time this year. Very reasonably priced and good service, so would recommend them.

My Griff has been insured with Chaucer via Jelf brokers for the last couple of years but Chaucer will only do multi-car policies now and so far I get better rates insuring my 4x4 and my wife's TT with other insurers.

I see so many posts about insurance where ppl seem to regularly confuse brokers and underwriters. I wonder if some people actually know who their vehicle is insured with! The table in the wiki has the same problem. The broker is just an agent. The important people are the underwriters since they set the rates, T&C's and determine claims, payouts etc.

I'm interested in the comments about MSM but they are the broker. Who is underwriting your policies (the insurer)?
