DMS SL55

Just had the "stage 2" DMS upgrade and recalibrated ABC, i.e. lowered. Looks the dogs and goes like absolute stink. Laugh-out-loud shove in the mid-range (in fact, anything over 2,500 RMP is loony) and totally effortless delivery. Initial reaction = Top marks to DMS.

Insurance... Hmmm... My renewal (due next week with Bell) has been quoted at £1,223! That's up from £862 which I already thought was a bit steep bearing in mind that the car is a 2002 model (value c. £25k) and I have full no-claims bonus in rural East Anglia...

Any advice on who to try?

Do you have any before/after pics of the lower supension?
Roughly how much was just the suspension?
Engine tweaks would be a laugh, but standard is enought for me ;>

The good news is that the multi-level ABC suspension still works, so "normal height" can be restored at the touch of a button. The new lowest setting has slightly more camber than before so gives uneven tyre-wear, apparently, so on motoray cruises etc I'll probably switch to the higher setting. Seems the best of both worlds to me, so easy to justify. List price is £950+VAT.

I use http://www.greenlightinsurance.co.uk/ . My SL55 isn't modified but my old Fiat Coupe had a fair few modifications.

Currently I pay ~ £600/year off road parking and I'm 29 with 4 years NCB.

Hi Marlon,
Getting used to all the gadgets on the car, so is the 'ABC suspension' the button to the left of the gearshift? ie. you lower the car with DMS and then the 'two stage up button' as I call it, lifts the car back to normal height (though I assume not as high as it would have been lifted pre DMS?)

Yes, that's right. All three 'stages' are lowered by around 2.5cm, which makes 'one red light' about the same height as the orignal 'no lights' setting. The sport button (on the other side of the gearshift) has the same effect as before of reducing body roll.

Thanks Marlon, I think DMS will have one more customer! And I'm not taking my credit card as the engine tweaks sound all too tempting! I wasn't aware the sports button changed the handling either, so learn something new every day!

Hello Marlon, happy to hear you`re enthusiastic about the difference the mods have made.How about removing the small back exhaust boxes for the full "Nascar " effect. !!

I guess I`m lucky regarding insurance, I informed my broker with detailed information regarding DMS resulting in no increase in the premium.

Try Adrian Flux, after they have quoted tell them you ar a PH member, that gets you extra discount. (I am cynical and think that if you tell them about PH first then you dont get as big a discount)

I cant get near A Plan quote for the Sagaris with anyone else, but I did switch to Aviva for the Merc and saved £200.

Welcome back from holiday! Yes, I think the mods are great. Do you have the "full Nascar" effect on yours? If so, expect a visitor very soon!

Those Good-ol'-boys at Bell insurance have done the right thing and decided that my premium doesn't need to go up after all... in fact they've just quoted me a renewal figure (including consideration of the DMS mods) that's actually a few quid cheaper than I was paying before. Shows that it's always worth negotiating.

Enjoy your road trip... I did something similar last Oct (3,000 miles in total) and it was absolutely teriffic fun. The right car for the job, no question.

Are these the rear silencers? Are they detachable or did you have to replace them with an after market straight-through system?

I recall I wrote a descriptive post earlier this year ( or was it last year ?) on this forum detailing the required action needed to replace the resonator boxes with a section of tubeular pipe.Cost was approx £100.

Maybe a search would reveal the post .

Next week I am using Car Planet to change my exhaust to 100cel cats and 3" tubing,
