Holiday home. To buy or not?

Have been discussing holiday options with the wife and am quite amazed that even with the current economic climate how much prices seem to have gone up for a family of four. The idea of buying a holiday home close to a beach and possibly a golf course is now being discussed. At minimum £5000 per year and with our kids only 6 & 3 I can see 50-60k being spent on holidays over the next ten years alone! I appreciate that cheaper holidays could be taken but this doesn't seem to be too far off the mark in terms of medium expenditure for two weeks sun.

From what I can see I can put some company profits into an Employer funded retirement benefit scheme and buy a property through this vehicle.

Finance arrangements aside, does anyone have property abroad and if so has anyone any experience of Polaris or Desert Springs resorts?
