The boys have decided that we’re going to watch as many of the World Cup games as we can, taking turns to host the others so that no-ones OH has to suffer more games than any other. And we’ve also decided that each host must provide food (nibbles for afternoon kick offs, half time meals for evening games) and booze appropriate to the ‘home’ team’s country. Of course by ‘home’ team I mean the team listed first for each fixture.

So I need your help in determining the best booze (usually but not necessarily the local beer), best snack/nibbles and best half time meal themed for the following countries:
Algeria
Argentina
Australia
Brazil
Cameroon
Chile
Denmark
England
France
Germany
Ghana
Greece
Honduras
Italy
Ivory Coast
Japan
Mexico
Netherlands
New Zealand
Nigeria
North Korea
Paraguay
Portugal
Serbia
Slovakia
Slovenia
South Africa
South Korea
Spain
Switzerland
USA
Uraguay

Some are going to be easy – USA for example will probably be Budweiser, Pretzels, Burgers & Fries. But others – Cameroon? – are going to prove tricky. Your help and ideas are much appreciated.

[Mods – can you leave this in the lounge please as I can’t put it in both sport and food and drink]

Tequila Slammers for Mexico.

Any any faggy light beer that gives you a headache for the USA, Bud Light would do nicely. smile

I know, I know but when one is making a very clever, insightful and astute comment upon the damaging effects of the homogenisation of indiginous cultures into one, globalised facade then subtlety takes a back seat.

Besides which I did put in a cheap dig about Americans being fat.

It's football.

I'm sure the 'people' who enjoy it won't care what their host is putting into his stolen microwave as long as it says 'Iceland' on the box somewhere.

And the idea that they would show any discernment as to their preferred choice of alcohol as they grunt at the taxpayer funded plasma is frankly laughable.

I get the feeling that there were alot of PH'ers that got relegated to being a defender or goalie when they were in school.

Nothing wrong with being a defender/goalie! I was a centre half bowtie

It's when you've got 23 players so one is relegated to being the ref that people get in a huff hehe

Arrr - but I'm talking 'school days' football... when the only thing worse than being 'a defender' was wearing Y-fronts in the changing room:

Nigeria;
Drink: Guinness (Foreign Extra Stout, ideally imported from Nigeria which has a slightly different recipe)
Food: Meat Soup

For meat soup, ask your butcher for a pound of all the bits he can't sell - heart, intestines, hooves, etc. Chop finely, Add water. Add chillies and pepper until the pain is such that you don't notice how disgusting it is. Serve.

Guinness FES also works for Cameroon, Ghana, etc.
