Stuck in Perth. My 22nd April Emirates Dubai to Manc is cancelled. Earliest available seats now....

....

...

11 May!!!

I kid you not.

5 or 6 days of closed airspace ----------> 20 day delay.

If I cannot wait until then, they can get me ti Istanbul and then they expect us to get our own way back to Manchester!!!

Are these people on drugs?

Looks like the best I'll get is a flight to Munich or paris and then a drive to the UK.

Piss poor.

The problem is that airlines reduced capacity during the recession - so that what planes do fly have fewer spare seats on board.

The result being, that now the sh!t has most certainly hit the fan, they don't have the ability to increase capacity and get everyone home quickly. So those that are stranded must drip back slowly.

I really don't think it is the airline's fault. They need to operate profitably, and to do so, probably need to run at 75-80 Capacity minimum. 5-6 days of missed travel (probably at a time they were running at close to 100% capacity beacuse of the end of a Holiday period) then naturally it will take a further 15-25 days to get a seat. Any more they do will put the airline's long term business at risk because of the costs they have to endure (Euro carriers more, not so much the Abu Dhabi Royalty owned Emirates). The situation still has not been cleared up, and an end is not in sight. It makes good business sense to be conservative in how they manage capacity as this could bring an end to many airlines.

I flew BA to Singapore just over a week ago - I doubt they were at 30% capacity. Sadly, I think the trip back, if it ever happens, may be slightly busier!

I feel sorry for those who thought they'd lucked out by re-booking a cancelled flight from the end of last week to the beginning of this week, as they now have to rebook again with a massive delay, rather than had they originally taken a flight for the end of this week instead!

We were due to fly last Sunday and the earliest we could re-book for was this Saturday, which looks to be ok. I'm gutted for those who had flights cancelled before that, and who then re-booked for Monday / Tuesday of this week. They are now probably facing a nother week before they will be able to fly back home.

Don't forget that a plane that doesn't go to London can't then fly on to Manchester and then can't fly from there to Dubai, so a cancelled flight and closed airspace could mean that the plane is stuck on the wrong continent, then add in working hours servicing requiremnts and the plane stuck on the Tarmac could be due to go for service.
