Hi,

I've just bought a new camera and so far so good, I'm pleased with it. Due to my memory card from Play not arriving I picked up a 2GB card from Carphone Warehouse. Using my Hama card reader the photos I've taken seem to take an age to transfer to my PC - sometimes as slow as 10KB/second. Please tell me this will improve when my branded card arrives?

Memory cards have a speed rating - a factor often overlooked in the desperation to get one for 99p.

However brand alone is not a guarantee of speed - I have some Lexar Pro cards but as they're a few years old they're 40x. Currently running Lexar Pro 300x UDMA; speed is the least of my worries smile

Does anyone buy them in the High Street?

I use CF but IIRC SD speeds are Class 1,2 etc. As ever, YGWYPF.

At a guess I'd say that the card reader has been plugged into a USB 1.1 port. You may have got a warning about that when it was plugged in.

Although in that case I'd expect speeds to be nearer 300-500KB/s. 10KB/s indicates something is very very wrong somewhere along the line. I'd try it in another computer first to see how it performs.

Just an update, a reboot seems to have sorted things out.

Indeed they are, and often they're cheap Chinese copies with piss-poor read/write speeds.
