Im at a loose end this summer as i have nothing to do, finished uni, st economy.

I do however have a jetty and slip ramp for a boat on the river so am thinking of getting a little boat to mess around with, possibly take out in the sea to bournmouth etc..

been looking at fletchers, any good?

have a few grand. what are running costs? servicing?

Do i need any uk license to drive it in the sea?

something like this..

I'd think theres more fun to learning to sail a dingy properly. Why not get a Dart 16 or something.

Or even an old Fireball, do it up as well as using it and flog it for a profit.

A days blasting around on that fletcher can cost a lot of money in petrol!!!

Which river you speak of? guessing in Poole Harbour? May be wrong but i think there is a harbour wide speed limit that would make things very uncomfortable in that too!

Hiya, thanks for the answers..

1. saily boaty = i don't know how to sail, and have zero desire to learn yet.

2. not poole harbour, christchurch, i can boaty it down to mudeford then out into the sea..

3. not looking to rag it around at high speeds, more to chill out and potter along the river, have a few beers in the sun etc. maybe once in a while take it in the sea for some fun.

just i like the little sports boat look more than the rig/dory look.

I took my next door neighbors boat to mudeford the other day but didn't go out to sea, do you need a license for sea going? is this a good idea?

Ah, my dad had a Fletcher until I was about 14. Lovely little boats, big enough to ski behind and small enough to put behind a car easily. Would be great to take a girl out, some beers, get a stereo fitted....

Only thing, as has been said, any boat likes to drink. I think we used to reckon about 50-60 litres for a day out.

You do not need a license to drive your boat out to sea.

It would however be a good idea if you drive you boat out to sea to have a VHF radio so that when the engine packs up or you drive into a rock you can call out the RNLI to come and save you. You do need a license to use the radio.

Yeah, but that was skiing behind. If you were just going for a gentle pootle round on just over tickover I doubt it would use much at all.

If I had a bit more space, a project like this would really appeal. Good job I know buggerall about doing up boats I suppose! (Although I do have the MRGC radio ticket, might be a problem with validity though, I passed in '86!)

Pay and display for boats, lol, dont temp the feckers. You can, (with care of course) pootle up to the beach and anchor up or nose it into the sand. Beware, the whole of Sandbanks to Bournemouth beach has a 200 yard slow zone (6 knots I think) so be VERY careful when going towards the beach.

Poole harboar is great, my summer playtoy biggrin
