CV Joints

I'm going to replace the cv joints in the driveshafts soon and looking at them I assume it is a straightforward job, although I've read that the torx bolts can be a bit of a pig, is it a case of just undoing the torx bolts both ends and then just dropping the driveshaft and then splitting the joints off from there or is it much harder than that and I am kidding myself that some thing on a TVR can be easy to do?

Hi Tony

No just unbolt them (tee hee - sounds easy dosnt it) give 'em a waggle and off they come. I think you will find them are torx T45 and, from my experience buy half a dozen torx bits that size as you almost certainly break some, and, after locking the drive shaft, apply gentle and increasing pressure until they give way. If, as it happened to me, the end of the torx snaps off and stays in the head of the torx bolt, use a strong magnet and the broken bit should come out

Good quality Torx Bits are the key to successful removal of the bolts. make sure the bolt heads are as clean as possible so the the Torx Bits go right into the socket and get a good grip. Use extensions to get good alignment to ensure you are not twisting the bits in the sockets

the shafts will just drop down and away when the last bolts are removed.

Torx bits that are black are usually impact bits, very good too Ask for impact bits, but they are expensive and there are other areas on the S where torx have been used.
