PistonHeads Car Photography Session
Join PH and LAT to learn the secrets of shooting a car in the studio
As some of you may know, the PH offices are based at Haymarket HQ in Teddington, which is also home to the rather large LAT photographic studio.
The LAT studios are purpose built for car photography, housing literally all of the kit that pro-photographers need to take any type of car picture. Not only are the studios used by magazines such as Autocar and What Car, they are also used for bespoke shoots for car manufacturers, preview shots of unreleased cars and all types of racing cars too.
The chief studio photographer Peter has teamed up with PistonHeads to provides sessions where PHers can learn how to shoot a car in the studio. You need to bring your own camera, but Peter will be on hand to give tutorials and offer tips and guidance throughout the day. You will also be able to use the lights and all other studio equipment as you wish, along with some of the lenses that LAT use to get specific shots. For the first part of the day, PH will provide a suitable car to use as a subject, but after lunch you can shoot your own cars if you wish and we'll decide which ones get into the studio over lunch.
The first PistonHeads Studio Session will take place on Saturday 24th April and can cater for up to 10 attendees. The session will run from 09.30-17.00, lunch is included (at the pub next door) as are teas and coffees throughout the day. You'll also get some free PH stuff to take away on the day.
The agenda for the day will be as follows:
09.30 - 10.00: General welcome and studio rules
10.00 - 12.30: Studio shoot of car – learn how to light a car in a studio. We’ll try to shoot 3-4 main angles, and teach the techniques of perfect lighting along the way. Everyone will be able to ask questions and see first hand the way to achieve the perfect shot, regardless of experience level.
12.30 - 13.30: Lunch at the pub next door. Chat over the morning and choose the cars for the afternoon session.
13.30 - 16.30: Shoot your cars (max 4 different cars 1 angle of each) You take control of lighting and shooting the car of you choice, working in small groups. During the afternoon you will be able to ask technical photographic questions, see how images are developed on the Mac in post production and get one-on-one advice.
16.30 - 17.00: End of play. Time to review the day and ask any final questions before close.
This session will be priced at £150 per person, and if you are interested in taking one of the ten available places please e mail me with your name and address details and I will get back to you with futher details.
All levels of experience are welcome, as Peter will be offering one-on-one tuition and will tailor his approach to suit individuals on the day.
The session has been advertised within the PH photography forum already and as such we can only offer 4 spaces at the next session, but we hope to run 9 more tutorials throughout the year so please do get in touch to register interest for this, or any other session.
We look forward to seeing you there.
That is a fair price within photographic circles, some so-called top wedding and portrait photographers are charging that for half a day lecture.
Only thing is it's around London and the cost of getting there and staying for me personally would be prohibitive, but for locals and those who
stay within striking distance, PLEASE PLEASE take up this opportunity as it's a fantastic insight into this specialised field.
Well done PH for offering this !!
Cheers TW>>>
