Live in Dorset Wilts Somerset Area? New Club Maybe
Discussion
I'm thinking of starting a new Motorsport club in this area. I have found some suitable venues that are available for fun type & safe slalom style events.
The idea is to run non competitive driving events at one or two closed private venues, either tarmac or concrete surafaces. The venues are large open areas so nothing more than cones to hit.
The events planned are:
Autocross/Solo: Being run along the lines of the Solo & SoloII Autocross as seen in the states. Basically like our Autotests around a twisty coned off circuit but without the reversing bits.
Drifting: Again around a coned off area similar to the events starting out at the moment.
The plan is to have it self marshalling so everyone who enters takes it in turns to marshall, prepare & have a go etc.
If anyone is interested let me know

Right listen up.
The land is available but is limited when it can be used. It is possible for weekends but weekdays are nearly always free.
Most of the motor clubs don't seem too keen on starting up NEW type of events, they have their established events, I have asked. Also as a new member I got the impression you were not very influential as a newbie. I may be wrong on these points though.
As for insurance, yes I have looked into it, there is a standard requirment for public liability at the venue. As for MSA affiliation any advice welcome but a good idea yes. Any insurance peeps out there.
Re the Site: 650yards by 650yards of nice smooth tarmac, there are other bits available in the same area but slightly rougher & mini circuits/roads too.
Any suggestions of people would like to do most welcome

sounds great. best bet would be to contact the MSA directly and find out what they require to become an affiliated club.
i can only speak of bristol motor club but everyone, especially newbies, are welcome, particularly those with a venue! the problem they have at the moment is no venue for solos and autotests. there were approx 30 competitors at the first solo when they had a venue and this was before the club had experience of this format of events. I know there is huge potential for lots of competitors out there!
anyway, i look forward to hearing more! there is an autoest/solo organised by the Farnborough MC which you may be interested in visiting for some info

There are lots of access roads that could be used for rally type events, overgrown mostly & fairly rough for a road car. The venue is mostly flat so not much 4wd fun.
The main tarmac areas are flat & would be ideal skid pans, 650 yards by 650 yards. I think there would be water on site but past experience its not necessary if you bring some spare part worns.
As for dates, who can do weekdays? as it not always available over weekends.
We'd need about 10 - 20 people to make it viable, which I don't think is too much of a problem.

I've sent an email to them....
I know a chap at Bournemouth Motor Club who are involved in rallies, sprints etc across Dorset, Wilts & Devon. Indeed they are running an event down near Honiton next weekend.
I know they co-ordinate events with similar regional clubs in this part of the country if you email me direct at corozin@hotmail.com with your contact details I will put you in touch with him.
No point in creating a new club if one already exists which may fit the bill.

This maybe the guy I spoke too, who organises day events on our local MOD (bournemouth) ground, checked it out last summer but turned out to be a bit costly as there was only me, more people would make it cheaper apparently?

Hi guys & girls,
As per the other post for those who fancy having a go at this new club Idea here is all the info.
It's open to anyone but other clubs who want to make the events their own are most welcome.
The first dates are the 18th & 26th of April, so come along if you want to see what it's all about. www.conedodgers.co.uk
It's been set up on a club basis, it's not a commercial enterprise but it'll have to covers its costs, so if anyone out there thinks they might be able to assist in any way I'd be more than pleased to hear from you.
