Has anyone used one to cure an addiction or phobia? How effective was it? How do you find a good one?

I used James Fenchurch of Wimbledon.

Excellent service and reasonable rates.

I cannot praise him highly enough, almost a religous experience seeing him.

Have a word with Tyre_Tread - there were a couple of threads about this a few months ago.

Agree with this. Just been trying to find some info but to no avail. The search function on pistonheads is shocking. He is very good.

You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist. You don't need to use a hypnotherapist.

Well I've always believed/assumed that its ultimately only as good as you make it - ie. if you genuinely believe that it will work and that someone can alter your brain to make it genuinely find cigarettes revolting then that will work....but what if you dont believe you are hypnotisable?

I went to a hypno a few years ago to help me stop smirking tabs. It did work, for a while, but then me and the ex were out having a pub lunch one day and I decided to have a crafty Hamlet with my post-meal pint.

Kidded myself that I could have "just one" and leave it at that.

I couldn't.

Then it won't work for you and you'll have to find another way of dealing with the problem.

Isn't that a general problem with smoking. If you just have one after quitting there's a risk you could end up back on the habit.

I'm not an expert but I think it requires a level of accepting that it could work but also an ability to relax. If a client is always sceptical and worried about being programmed to do silly things they won't relax suitably. I might be very wrong, though.

Some people aren't hypnotisable, however there's an easy way to tell. Roll your eyes upward. The amount of white showing is a direct measure of your susceptibility to hypnosis, and is I suspect how Paul McKenna etc choose participants for their stage shows.

How many sessions did it take to get you to that point?

It could then be said that the hypnotherapy worked.

Unfortunately, you then chose to start smoking again.

I remember an interview with Paul McKenna where he said that a hypnotherapist should be able to cure a nicotine addiction in 1 session with a receptive 'patient'

All these who proclaim 12 sessions are chasing the money.

That was just one session. At the time, I didn't even feel "hypnotised" (not that I'd know how I was supposed to feel) just quite relaxed thinking "this isn't really working", but I came out not really bothered about having a fag.

Had a consultation on saturday to see if it would help me. Go back in 2 weeks for the actual hypnotising, i'm receptive to the idea of it working so no doubt that'll help

This is the right way to do it - You have to go in there with a fairly open mind.

If you go in thinking that it won't work, then chances are it won't. This is why a lot of doubters don't believe in hypnotherapy.
