Dont wear shorts/tshirts
Make sure ground is totally flat
Hold the bars VERY loosely when on it
Dont moan about stinking head to toe in 2 stroke

I've got a mini-moto!

I damaged myself on it so badly with 5 minutes of me getting it out of it's box that I wasn't able to ride my proper bike for a fortnight!

It was summer time and I was just wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I was eager to try it out and couldn't be bothered to change my clothes as I didn't think the little 'toy' could hurt me.

I got it out of the box and tightened up the handlebars and I went straight off down the road on the little thing.

The road where I live is down a slight hill and I was absolutely flat out on the little beast, when I suddenly got into a violent and uncontrollable tank slapper! I must have been doing nearly 40 and the bugger just spat me off!

The first thing to hit the floor was my bare knee, shortly followed by everything else. I was really quite badly bruised, cut and grazed and covered in petrol. The bike would have been classed as a write off if it was a real one

My advice to you would be:

1. Adjust the handlebars to be as straight as possible to help you control it! I made the mistake of setting them back slightly like on a real sports bike. I went as far as removing the whole front brake system so I could get the bars even straighter.

2. Wear protective clothing! Knee & elbow pads are a must! (especially if like me, you enjoy getting both your knee and elbow down when cornering )

3. Treat it with respect. It can bloody hurt if you come off at full speed.

4. Make sure there's plenty of air in the rear tyre. I had another 'off' caused by the sprocket hitting the ground and flipping the bike into the air as I had the bike leaned over so far.

5. Keep your arms and hands real loose and try not to hang on too tight.

6. Try not to get your knee down when wearing shorts!

7. Have fun

How about getting to an indoor circuit? There are loads around here (Yorkshire) that allow you to take your own bike and race around a kart circuit for a few hours for a few quid.

The more I look at those mini moto's the more I want one. Anybody got any advice on a relatively cheap but fun bike I could get?

Always look on ebay first. There was a stall at Stoneleigh kit car show doing them at £250, they might be at Newark later this month
