Brake Master Cylinder Query
Discussion
I have taken the brake master cylinder (Ford Fiesta type) and servo from the S3 I have been breaking and put on one side for when the existing SAAB setup on gerald will need replacing. The master cylinder is tatty ans needs reconditioning and I have bought a kit from Bigg Red.
But i saw the opportunity to buy a new Delphi/Lockheed replacement (Delphi part number LM39004) described as a Fiesta Mk3 replacement.
Well its arrived and its different to the existing one. Two ports are much bigger on the replacement, see photo.
I'm looking for information to see ifit can be used, are there adaptors available?
All ideas well recieved

Norman I think that type has some sort of valves that screw into the master cylinder, then the pipes go on the end of the valves. I'm not sure what the valves do.
Anybody got a fiesta haynes manual?
I'm guessing its a pressure reducing valve for the rears but that is a guess.

Which ports are you referring to Norman? dont forget two "ports" on the Ford Master Cylinder are where the reservoir connect so are huge compared to the brake pipe connectors (apologies if I'm stating the obvious but the SAAB unit wont have these with a remote reservoir)
look at the Fiesta Mk3 items on the Brake Parts website and even the ones with "modulators" have normal size connection outlets

The valves referred to, I believe, do the equivalent of the brake bias valve on the bulkhead. These are not needed when you use the fiesta servo on a TVR and one of the ports is blanked with a bleed screw on the S (only 3 ports used see picture with bleed screw cut off)
.
Also the two front connections are M12 thread and the two for the rear (inc the one blanked) are M10.
I think you have either got the ABS version (as stated above) or the standard one which has a smaller bore than the one used on the XR2i (and the S series). IIRC the bores are 20.4mm and 22.2mm respectively and you need the larger one. The difference is not immediately obvious
There are more pictures on my site of my servo and master cylinder change if you need other views

This is another guess but could it be that the newer type if for split circuit brakes - each of the larger unions goes via a valve to the rears - and the fronts have one small union each. In the event of one hydraulic circuit failing the other still brakes one front and one rear brake.
With the S arrangement if the single hydraulic circuit fails that feeds the front brakes you aren't going to stop

Norman ~ Bad news I'm afraid.
The one you have bought may well have the wrong bore.
I have just upgraded from the SAAB system and thought I was doing well when I got a servo and m/c from Ebay for 99p.
The servo fits fine ( after redrilling the bulkhead and fitting your plate) but the m/c is no good. Foot flat on floor with very little braking.
As Richard (greymrj)said in his most useful thread " Sorted" the cylinder bore needs to be 22.2mm.
I'm pretty sure that the one you have has a bore of 20.6. See this french site which gives bore size.
I asked on of my local factors for LM80169 and they said this equates to PMH246.
Looking at this site ( takes a while to load) on page 48 it says
PMH247 ~ Fiesta mk III 1.8d Non ABS (+PR Valve) Bore 22.22mm
PMH246 ~ Fiesta mk III 1.8d Non ABS (cast iron w/out tank) Bore 22.2mm
I'm not sure what the difference is and whether it would fit.The PMH246 is £25 cheaper but it's no good if it doesn't fit.
So, I have just ordered one from TVR carparts ~ price matched my local factors but more importantly it's a known fit. Now I can get the thing to go I want it to stop properly!
I now have a spare m/c for the SAAB set up if anyone needs it (and also a random mk3 Fiesta one too if anyone is running around in one of those
)
The SAAB servo is well rusted and in the bin.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it may help in the long run.
