Rev Counter?

Hi,

This is a bit of a strange one. A while ago i replaced the plug extenders with Act ones and the leads to bosch leads, which have the same suppression as the Magnecors. It may be unrelated but, a while later i noticed that the rev counter only seems to be showing about 400 revs at tickover and only just picks up a little when moving normally - the engine revs fine and has been on a scope, with no problems.

After i've been driving for around 40-45mins the rev counter jumps into life a starts to work normally, but a little bouncy. And electronic engineers out there that may have an anwser?

Don't know if it's the same on a chim but on a cerb, when the big fuse for the alternator starts to break down it can have a strange effect on the rev counter for some reason. There's more stuff on the cerb archives about it. A search for rev counter or big fuse will show it up.
Or, do a search in the chim forum for the same. The solution might already be out there....

It shouldn't be a problem with the fuse as mine's a 93 model and so doesn't have one.

What seems strange is that after driving for about 40 mins with a bit of sitting in traffic it jumps into life. The only thing i can think of is a loose connection that when warm is expanding and so makes a better connection?

I have the exact same problem! I changed the coil to no avail.

Would be interested to get some ideas.....

Not exactly the same here. I renewed coil, leads and extenders chasing an unrelated problem. Tacho was very smooth but now bounces about a bit and when I take my foot off the gas the needle rises by about 500rpm!

What's that all about then? DOuble checked all LT connections, even moved them away from the HT leads. Was told it may be the coil so I am planning on putting my old one back on some time.
