I've just been watching Come Dine with Me ----- yes I know, its rubbish! But the man on it had a fantastic looking oven that was on the waal but over the hob and when he pressed a button the bottom lowered down with the ovens contents . Can anyone give me a linky? I'd never seen one before and it looked fab! Thanks S

Yes, i've seen one of those recently and I can't remember where. Might be worth looking at NEFF's website as I think that's the only domestic appliance site i've been on recently.

Rubbish? 'Tis one of the better programmes on TV these days. Mind, that chap was an utter appendage and, one of the girls had a few issues. Sorry, can't add anything to the cooker other than to say it was very cool (except of course when it's on). wink

Yes, it's a Siemens - I saw one in a showroom in 2008. Sexy indeed, but regardless of price, the slow speed of it going up and down would bug me. You also need to keep the space below it clear - so part from the bragging rights, a normal oven make s alot more sense IMHO.

I was going to suggest Siemens, as I'm currently fitting our new kitchen with their appliances (at staff discount through a family member). They make nice stuff, but at full retail it's a bit pricey.

Ours are a little more standard tech just with left and right opening matching ovens, but the best thing is that they are self cleaning: You put then into a special cleaning mode and 2 hours later all that remains is ash, which can be wiped off easily. We've just done our old one today in readiness for putting it on Ebay (doesn't match the new units irked) and it's as good as new again.

Like most things you can trawl the internet for savings. However, by chance one day I was driving behind a van belonging to a kitchen company. My passenger said 'Why don't you give them a ring?' I did, and they said they could beat the internet by 5%. Good challenge. So I trawled the internet with my shopping list, then went back and said 'Beat that' - and amazingly they did, by 5% - so I bought from them!

Still managed to spend £1290 on a hob and hood nuts

It did look cool - but far far too slow.

and my god what a tool.

but the morbid cleaner woman and the one armed permanently happy woman were not much better.

Yes, believe me I've done a lot of trawling on this project, but the staff discount through a family member was too good for even the web to match. We're getting Siemens appliances for pretty much the same price as we could get Hotpoint models for on the web.

The only issue is that our hob didn't turn up with the rest of the delivery and guess what I could do with sooner than the two ovens, etc as the worktop people will need to have the exact measurements for making the template for the granite. frown

I think our hob and hood was a shade under £800 but it's a free standing glass/stainless steel island hood and 5 ring hob with wok burner if that makes any difference.

Siemens are very good at templates and dimensions - I'm sure you could get a PDF for that model number in advance of the actual hob arriving.

Touchslide induction here. Stupid price for a lump of glass but you smile every time you use it smile

Just had news that it is coming on Wednesday, so that will be in plenty of time for the worktop templating. I've got a gas man coming tomorrow to move the gas pipe, so he'll have to move and reconnect the old hob for now I guess. I think it's on a bayonet fitting so easy to swop onto the new hob when it's ready (and I think it needs to be out of the way for the templating).

I saw those induction hobs, maybe it might have been easier than having gas. smile

the gas hob should'nt be on a bayonet, only free standing ovens

Oh bugger...I guess I'll be paying him for two (maybe three) visits then. Plan is to move the old hob and use a temporary worktop (the original piece cut down) tomorrow until the granite templating, when it will have to be temporarily disconnected and moved out of their way while templating, then put back until the granite comes. I thought it was on a bayonet so 10 second job to disconnect it, move things around then reconnect again to keep us going with a hob. It'll be a week or more before I'm ready to get the worktop people out, plus 10 days or so after templating before they come back and install, don't want to be without a hob all that time if it can be avoided.

Kitchens...organisation matters. smile
