I was advised to come to you guys!

So soon I'll return to the UK, and I'd like to bring my 96 Mustang GT with me. I need advice on getting thru the SVA. I don't want to spend too much one doing the conversion - I'd happily do it myself.

So how should I go about getting:
- headlamps,
- rear indicators,
- side repeaters ?
- conversion for reversing lamp to fog lamp?

Is there anything I'm forgetting?

I emphasize that cost is a factor. My main reason for importing it is I can't get a decent price for it in the U.S. - I mean I like it but the motivating factor is what can I buy in the UK for 3k sterling!

Cheers,
Chris

Ambrose,

I have been looking at the latest rules as I plan to bring my Vette back to UK in a couple of years. I also imported a Camaro back in '99 which I put through SVA.

The threads already provided give a good summary. I bought lights for the Camaro through GM and you may get some UK units through Ford. All lights need to be E marked (& dip left obviously). Some of the traps I found: Lights activated by the handbrake are illegal. Mine turned on automatically when you took off the handbrake. You can only have a certain degree of window tint forward of the driver. Mine was Texas spec & I had to peel the tint film off! The fog light needs to be between +250mm and +1000mm from the ground, on the centreline or on the offside. Symmetrical if in pairs. You need an illuminated switch in sight of the driver. Can't use a dual brake light combo. You'll need side repeaters again E Marked. You also should have amber indicators at the rear which may be a problem with a Mustang.

If you haven't already found it, there is a link here to a draft SVA Manual which has all the rules in it. Although its still draft it should give a good idea of what you need to do.

There are lots of agencies on the web which do SVA conversion work if you need it. Happy to help more if you have other questions.
