After a very brief report on Sky News, first thing Mrs Puggit said was "the husband did it".

Almost a year to the day since another robbery last year...

You bloody cynics....

hehe

However, I know that part of North Yorks and I think I know that village. Its a very typical village from the area and it would be incredibly unusual and rare to have something like this happen. And as for out-of-the-area criminals coming in? Don't believe it - its a village shop and they simply would not have much money to justify the increased risk (easy to spot outsiders etc). Dont get it as most crims will go after outskirts of towns shops as they would have more money and less risk.

So yeah, I do kinda concur though.

Is it local?

The article I read said "the police are investigating how the robbers came in and went upstairs without the husband noticing, and why they would do that when the money was downstairs" or similar.

THe husband is as good as convicted as far as I am concerned.

I live 5 miles down the road. I also grew up in the area in a sub-post office.

My dad found himself on the wrong end of a sawnoff twice in the 15 years we had the PO. Both times it was Geordies coming down the A1 looking for easy pickings in the Dales villages (where everyone knows one another, so are more trusting and less likely to take the kind of precautions that someone running a PO in Gateshead would).

There may be less money in a village PO, but a couple of grand on the right day wouldn't be unheard of.

Second murder in the Richmond area in a week - it's turning into South Central round here.....

I thought it was a PO too? Wouldn't it have a safe with cash in for this purpose?

Did the husband do it?

Opportunity? Certainly. Means? Arguably. Motive? Therein lies the question and certainly the investigators will be looking at that. I think that they will have to identify the murder weapon first and then work it out (if they can even find it).

My first reaction to this story was that it didn't add up to a gang.

Agree, it doesn't add up at all.

If you'd just murdered someone to THEN do a robbery, and you had a firearm/imitation, there's no way you'd leave the husband free to call the police straight after you leave.

You'd knock him out/tie him up, draw the curtains, leave the shop closed. Nobody would start looking for hours by which time you'd be long gone.

I assume forensics will be able to tell the story soon enough.

I don't know about your old age (though I know a bit about my own), but...

The spouse is always the prime suspect, whatever the press are saying. Often turns out to be right, too.

Sleep well, tonight! wink

Will we split the reward equally?

Oh I never thought of that but I guess a 75/25% split in my favour would be appropriate.

Anyway I got a reply and he said "I couldn't possibley comment on that".

See if he can get us on the jury - he's sure to get a conviction then!

Have they put him in front of a press conference yet?

Always a sign that they're guilty.

What I find strange is that said robbers 'have his wife' according to the robber in the PO and then when he gets what he is after she is murdered.

Even the most stupid incompetant robber knows how to restrain a woman without killing her.

How is it they kill her but he isn't harmed?

Police are 'looking for the robbers who were wearing balaclavas' yeah right, I think anybody who goes into shop and buys a couple of those are going to arouse suspicions when it is easier to buy a beanie and cut a couple of holes in it.

Seems to me a bit strange a robber returning to a previous attempt that failed exactly a year previously unless he has just got out of the nick.

Remember that shifty looking bloke with specs who murdered his wife and robbed the branch she worked at?

Wow, I don't know why we need the Police with master slueths like you guys...

For the information of all you experts, this isn't the first time this post office has been held up by armed robbers.

My wife writes for a local paper that covers this area and there is nothing so far to suggest the husband is in the frame.
