Harry Carpenter dies.
Discussion
On Newsnight last night they paid a bit of a tribute to him.
"A television commentator is a peculiar animal, because basically he's getting paid for not working, because there are far more occasions when you shouldn't be speaking than when you should, and I think a lot of newcomers to television commentary are rather embarrassed by this, and I know I was, because you feel you're getting paid and you're not doing anything, and then suddenly the compulsion comes upon you to say something, anything, in order to earn your money, and you forget that you're not really there for that, you're there to help people, and you must only speak when you feel that you can help them. It's pointless telling them what they can patiently see for themselves."
I think that Andy Gray & Co. might have something to learn from Harry.
RIP.
