I have been reading from this board for many months now. This has been in preparation to the purchase of a 2nd hand Chimaera. Out of interest I have spent time reading what all the Porsche people have had to say... and now I'm not so sure about the Chimaera, perhaps an old 911 is the way forward. Problem is I know far less about them than I do the Chimaera. I have 15K to spend (although want to spend as little as possible!)
What would you all advise me to buy / look out for if I was to go for the 911? Also I I know from these boards quite a lot about what to expect financially frmo a Chimaera, but know nothing of the running costs of a 911. Any comments / experiences that you could share would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

TC

You're into LHD 964 C2 territory there, my son.

I'm sure Scottster will fill you in. He ran one for a year, lost pennies depreciation wise and it only cost a few pence more to run. Apart from petrol and tyres, but that's just the way he drives ;-) He also owned a TVR Griff, but before you expect impartiality, it broke down on him three times in as many weeks...

Before he gets down to details, I'd say budget an average of 2k a year on running costs. That would get you a major service, an interim, a couple of rear tyres and *either* a brake refurb or a new clutch depending on what work needs doing at the time.

Ok, Doms right and I can only quote on my experiance but even a 1990 C2 in LHD was far more car for the money than a TVR (No-one with a TVR needs to tear into me on that one, it's just my opinion having owned both!). I recently sold mine for £13,250 and it was the bo**ocks. I would have no hesitation in recommending one. You're welcome to give me a ring to chat about what to look for as that's easier than using my whole lunch break to write it all here.
