Adjusting protechs

Hi, sorry if this has been covered before.

The ride height on my Chimaera is too low, when going over speed bumps on my own it just about clears but with a passenger im grinding the exhaust, also with all the pot holes around i dont want to rip it off .

Is there a critcal height the car should be, it is lower at the front than the back.

Is it just a case of lifting it 5mm at a time until it stops grinding out.

I know this may be a stupid question but to raise the ride height is it just a case of turning the adjusting nut up, surely at some point you will be compressing the spring against the fully extended shock and not raising the height.

I love the low stance of the car and dont want to go too far

The shocks are set very stiff about 10 turns out of 13, will setting the shocks softer effect the ride height.

Adjusting the rebound rate on the shocks will have no effect on the ride height of the car, just how compliant it feels on the road.

you wont compress the spring, because the top mount and bottom mount are pushed apart as you wind the nut thus increasing the height, and you will achieve a decent ride height without fully extending it.

depending on your age of car, the 160/170mm levels may not look right, on my 95 car with 225/55/16 rears he tyres were too far up in the arches. and the rear looked low.

Using a c spanner, i adjusted mine, from 24mm of visible thread under the adjustable spring platform to 34mm, sits about right now. Haven't done the fronts yet but will do the same until the car looks right on the arches which is actually a little haigher than the 160 quoted. for me that is justified by the fact with 225/55 tyres it's 1 cm higher than later cars on 225/50.
