OK, so (after a visit by KeTVRin on Wednesday) I have now moved the dizzy back to where it should be in an attempt to sort the timing issues I was having (this explains the 'knocking noise' I was getting in the engine)

This worked, however, when the timing is correct the idle speed is not constant & the engine sounds like it's 'stuttering' (bloody awful & rough to be honest) - when I move the dizzy to get the engine to sound 'nice' the idle speed leaps to about 1500 revs (too high).

I have cleaned the AFM sensors and checked that the TP is working - could it be that the ISCV is kaput? Although had no problems with the idle speed 4 days ago when the timing was out????

I can't seem to get both right at the same time???

I think I may need to reset the ECU - as all this 'buggering about' with the dizzy may have confused it - I have had the engine up and down to fan kicking in 3 times now???

How do I reset the ECU and any other suggestions to try?

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

Jaye,

Disconnect the battery, leave it for an hour then reconnect and then start car, allow the engine to run through a full temperature cycle, i.e. fan cut in and then out. This should reset it all.

All now sorted biggrin - thanks for the advise thumbup

Turned out it was the adjusting screw at the top of the throttle plate - new straight slot plate meant it needed adjusting to close the butterflies - thanks for the link Norman (it gave me the idea to check).

Engine sounds & starts great now - although, bizarrely, the timing is still 'officially' out scratchchin as the 'timing notch' does not line up with the 12 'timing mark'???

Not that bothered though if she runs & sounds OK...back on with the important stuff driving now biggrin

Cheers
Jaye
