Just thought i'd say hello and introduce myself...
Currently own a Jag XK8 and about to treat myself to a Vette in the next 4-6 week, just trying to find the right one!
Can anyone help with tuning parts/companies over here in the UK? Found some shops in the US but can imagine shipping on a zorst would be dear

Hey, good to see youv'e seen the light. What model you after ? Hope you find the right one. Geoff Jeal in Banbury is a good choice for performance. There are a few others that i'm sure fellow "vetters" will chime in with.....Glad to have you aboard, Paul.

As mentioned by vetteman, Geoff Jeal in Banbury is the workshop i use plus there are others around the country mainly in the South East ,one in Milton Keynes and one in Manchester that I know of.

You can also find out more thru the CCCUK (Classic Corvette Club UK),magazines like 'Classic American' and 'Street Machine' are another way of finding imformation about shows etc ,plus there are a few C5 owners on this forum.

BTW, welcome and let us know how you get on with your purchase.

Welcome on board.

I shipped a B&B exhaust system over last year. It was about $280 with UPS. There is now a an alternative for getting heavier items over, check out www.moving-parts.com

Two things. Have you considered importing one from the US? If not, consider it now!

Example: 2002 low miles Corvette Z06 with 405bhp is about $36000. That converts to less than 20k. Add import duty, VAT and shipping ($880)and allow about £1000-£1500 for SVA test and work and you can have that car landed and registered for under 28k. Have a look on Auto Trader and you'll see 2001 385bhp models going for £35000. Stock C5's are cheaper still. It's a bit of hassle but both myself and a friend are going to import a pair of Z06's while the rate is high. You can't lose.

Hi b3any, hope you find what you're looking for and you'll have a lot of fun!.. As regards tuning there are not many people over here who understand tuning/modifying very well, I have a 94 vette, a 98 vette and a 97 Camaro SS, all modified/tuned, some more than others and would happily give my advice as to the way to go in the UK, good luck!

b3any,

Good to see you saw the light!

I live in Vegas and with the C6 about to hit the streets there are going to be some good bargains at the dealers very soon! With the dollar so weak its never been a better time to buy here.

Hi b3any,

If you are buying a C4 the best first mod is brakes. 'cos they don't have any as standard

On a C5 my personal choice would be coil over shocks.

I'm the same as you, a bit lazy!! plus if something goes wrong its a long way to take it back but get something from here and its a bit easier to sort out problems.
I wanted to buy a car from Chris as he was so helpful but like you say expensive so unfortunately for him I bought elsewhere.

First mods I fitted on my Z06 were a blackwing air filter and a carbon fibre airbridge to liberate a few extra horses from the intake. I am planning on fitting a set of LG Motorsports long tube headers to liberate about 40 more horses on the outlet side!

This will also act as an alarm call for the neighbours!

If you are buying a manual I would recommend a short throw shifter as the standard one is way too long.

Just a quickie when purchasing from the US....
The quote numbers excl Sales Tax... Then add it on when you buy at 8% or wherever you buy it... Is the tax redeamable on Export like VAT is in the UK? Since you have to pay VAT here when it arrives it seems there is 2 sets of taxes going on.

If it is not redeamable - is there any states where it is good to buy goods like cars where the tax is a lot lower or nil?

Cheers
