selling to a dealer

Has anyone had any experience with selling to one of the myriad of dealers in the wanted section?

If so did they offer a fair price?

When I was selling my TVR I emailed a number of the dealers listed in the wanted section. Not one emailed or called me back, so they're obviously not that desperate to buy stock!

Selling my Chim back in Sept 2008 I had a couple of e-mails from Driven Image wanting to buy my car. When I asked about price they offered around 3k less than I was advertising for. I was asking £9500 & achieved £9000 via private sale.

I contacted a few about mine, One chap preceded to tell me what the car was worth retail then offered me 5k less to by it, Yeah right

RG & TVR Center sell on a commission basis so that explains why they are so expensive but something I would consider as long as they don't go bust and nick yer car

Pretty much this, in my experience. When we were selling the Cerb, we decided to go to a dealer to save the hassle of tyre-kickers and test pilots. All except one offered stupidly low money for it.

When I finally - after much searching - found one offering a reasonably fair price, I ummed and aahed a bit for the look of the thing before nearly removing his arm in the rush to accept his offer.

Indeed. The service dealers offer is liquidity. They'll turn a car into cash. Not necessarily the amount of cash you want but it's still cash.

I sold one to a dealer and made about 20% profit on it.

It's the same as a normal sale, think what you would like, know what you need and stick with it. Dealers are obviously experienced and you can expect a hard bargain.

They naturally exists to make money, so it will depend what they view as their margin and how quickly they can move the vehicle. Clearly in my case they would have had a buyer waiting who would pay a premium. I was lucky and had bought cheaply.
