LM 2005 newbie needs advice

Me and a mate fancy doing LeMans in 2005 but we don't know the first thing about the event. So, we need to know :-
When ticket dates are released, how quick do I need to buy my tickets and approx price?
I'll be taking the Cerbie so is there usually a meeting point where all PH'ers go together? Presuming it's on a weekend, what day do you actually head over the channel?
Where's the best place to camp and how quick do I have to book a pitch? Prices?
When can you drink, baring in mind i'll have to drive back? Once there, do you just leave the car parked or is there any driving to do to get around?
When do you haul your ass back to the right side of the channel?
Any help appreciated.

you can leave the car parked up not too much of a prob for teh majority of the time. if you want to explore Arnage, le mans centre, booze run etc, you will need to drive. If you are on the piss at the track, you dont need to move the car. Last year we didnt move the car more than twice, once to arnage and once to get some beers at the supermarket.

Best to book through the TVRCC i found as against doing it "solo". Tickets advertised around sept/oct time. Just recently settled the invoice for the remainder after deposit.
Ideally its worth going wed night/thursday morning and back on monday at some point. The drive down there especially is a lot of the fun, a huge convoy of english nutters in some lovely machinery going some. Last year we got blasted past by a load of lads with ferraris including 2 F40's. Nice.
Camping and admission tickets are around £70. You can buy admission tickets on the gate for about £45 but just as easy to buy them with your camping.
I camped in maison blanche last year but am in Houx this year. Its horses for courses but I preferred the more party like atmosphere in Houx. MB is good though for track access as it literally borders the track. Our tent was about 40 yards from the track itself. and yes, i did sleep through saturday night when i passed out through drink face down outside the tent with a beer in one hand and a fag in another... thanks for not waking me Psychobert
The PH meet is a new thing for this year that DustyC has proposed. IMHO its a nice touch but at le mans you dont need to "group" together like petrolheads do in this country to winge about speed cameras and the lentalist twats that dont like us roaring past. At le mans, everyone has that spirit in them and burn outs etc are applauded, not frowned upon. Still be nice to see a few old faces mind.

Getting camping for this year is now a problem.
One of our region missed the boat (sic) and is having to look at one of the organised groups. But he says there are conditons on the camping like no late night noise, etc. I suspect the camping won't even be at the circuit. Sounds like no fun at all!
Bottom line - if you can sort your camping out then everything else will fall into place.

I'm a Le Mans virgin too, so if it's any help I booked through Travel Destinations Ltd. They have ferry race ticket and camping packages and will help you choose the best route, package, price for you.
I booked too late this year but they will take provisional bookings from July so book then if you want Maison Blanche, Houx or Houx Annexe. They may still have places for this year if you can make it...........go on you know you want to!!!!

I agree mate. The whole Le Mans camaraderie(?) is great. Its like one massive car meet for the English!
Dont know how well the PH meet will come together but its gotta be worth a try, even if just for the mulsanne convoy followed by a drive out for lunch.
Last year I breifly met half a dozen other PHers, being new to PH at the time that wasnt bad!
A lot of people came on the forums after last year saying they hadnt met many people, and I felt out of 150+ PHers going we could perhaps do a bit better this year
Now all I have to do is get myself a [strikethrough]flash [/strikethrough] enthusiasts sports car.
